Hello everyone,

I'm new to the forum and planning on purchasing either an 05 or 06 ST in the very near future. My questions are,

1. Is there any real differences between the two model years and if so what are they?

2. can i go wrong with a used bike with low miles or should i be looking new?

3. Is there any other issues or questions that i should be asking when looking at a sprint or dealing with the salesman?

Thanks

Greetings:

1) No difference.
2) Buying a low mileage bike can save your some bucks.
3) Make sure the bike you are buying has the heat shield installed if it's an 06. Make sure the dealer get's your bags in a timely manner. Otherwise, you will be getting a great bike.

Depending on what kind of riding you plan on doing, you may want to check out the 2007's. I've been reading that they're making a few changes to the ergos to make them more "touring" friendly. Might as well look at all your options.

Other than color, I think the only two differences in the 07 vs 05-06 are bar height and seat. A set of GenMar risers on an 05-06 will set you back about $135. Seats, of course, are an inividual preference. If the used bike doesn't have the heat deflection kit you should be able to get it n/c from a dealer. Worst case is that it costs about $30.

Do you know if the 05's can be upgraded w/the additional heat shielding? (As a fellow SoFla resident, that's important.) As I recall from my various readings, the 06 had some small changes to suspension and engine from the 05. I know the 07 has a new CPU and the heat management has been changed along w/some ergonomic adjustments. I ask because there's a low mileage 05 available locally and the price is pretty good.
Thanks!

My 05 has the heat Shields which are nothing more than foam pads with adhesive on them. You can install them if you can remove fairings. I sat on the 07 at my dealer, I felt nothing different than my bike, I do have the handlebar risers on mine.

I sat on a beautiful red '07 at Ft. Lauderdale's Pure Triumph store and also a caspian blue '06 w/Genmar risers and thought the '06 w/the Genmars was more comfortable (for me at least. I'm 5'10" with average length arms and pretty thick build.) Besides, those tiller style handle bars on the '07 are kinda funky looking.

I thought the heat shields went under the seat too so the exhaust didn't burn up the seat and rear handgrips. Is that inaccurate?

By the way Wills, what are those black dots you have running up the top side of your fairing?

Lee,

The 05's should be able to accept the heat shields as they do make a difference down here in South Florida. Should be a very low cost modification for the 05' since it was free with the 06'. Let me know if you end up getting the bike. I don't see many down here.

Will do BMW. And you're right cuz I haven't seen nary a one on the road yet. I know they're selling, just not sure to who or what they're doing w/them! Perhaps keeping them under glass?

I'm going to test ride one tomorrow from a private seller in Ft. Lauderdale. His bike was Pure Triumph's "test" bike so it's got a bunch of upgrades on it. Unfortunately it's also got close to 5k on the clock too. If the price is ok, we might work something out. If not, there are 2 others- one local & one in Orlando- that are open for consideration. Guess we'll see tomorrow.

Do you ride/associate w/the group from Pure Triumph? They sure seem to be a really nice bunch of people.
