Just been out for a blast for about an hour as weather a bit better today although windy, bike ran fine but on return giving it a wipe over(road salt) noticed a sender deep in frame behind cylinders. Single wire sender, facing up poss screwed into crankcase/gearbox? Have put wire back on when I found it, rubber boot perished so hopefuly stay on. Ran bike up and all warning lights still work just wondered if anyone knew what its for?

Sounds like the oil pressure switch. I'd check that the O/P light comes on when the engine's stopped and off when it's started. Usually the switch makes contact when there's no pressure, so I'd have expected the light to have never come on with it disconnected.
