Now that winter is officially here and the tinkering season well on it's way I'll stick them SAI block-offs on my S3.

Just wondering about the gasket. Have you guys who already have these installed used the regular Loctite black liquid gasket or something else? I have no idea how hot the cover gets, so hard to say if the vanilla stuff can handle the heat.

Did you leave the reed valves in under the plates?

Remove the reed valves or you'll have an annoying ticking noise as the flappers tap the block-offs. I haven't used gaskets yet with mine, but plan to do that when I dive into some mild motor mods later this winter. I know Dev and a few others have used gasket material though. I think they cut it out of sheet though.

Are the 955 reed valves somehow different to the 1050 ones? Got to disassembling the bike today and I do not see how the reed valve could tap the blockoff plate as there is 5mm of rubber between them.

Anyhow, while disassembling I noticed that no gasket is really needed if one uses the rubber gasket the reed valves are attached to.

Possibly. As I haven't seen an actual 1050 in person, the only verification of fitment I have is Dev's and others' confirmations that the plates fit perfectly. All I know is that when I left my reed valves in, they tapped really loudly making me think I was seriously low on oil. After removal, no more tapping. I have to assume that every time exhaust poofed out of each cylinder, it pushed the flapper up and tapped the metal, causing the tapping noise.

Sure. No probs there. Fit is good.

On the 1050 this is impossible as the reed valve only has room to bend downwards, so it cannot tap on the plate that is above it. Maybe you had a bad seal on one of the plates and there was a slight exhaust leak?

I guess I'll leave them out tho, just to be safe in case they in fact cause some strange noises. I'd be well pissed off if I had to strip everything down just to get to the valves for a second time.
