i would suggest following the triumph method for the irst 500, after that you can start to open her uip,, but there is alot of controversy about whether or not a fast break in is a good method,, and i think the more experienced motorwrenchers have idea's of they're own, however for all intents and purposes, the dealer will be slightly able to tell how you broke your engine in by looking at top speed and mpg when they do your 500 service.
you will notice the characteristics of the engine change over time,, not dramatically, but sounds will mature and it will get even better feeling.(i've been through two break in's in 5000 miles so i know)

also,, if you ever run into either of these two fellow's,,, steer clear,, they're bad news. :assim:

I just got my '07 Triple and have decided to follow the factory guidelines. The guys at the dealer were split as to how to break it in, but I plan on keeping this bike for a while so I decided to do it the recommended way. It is about impossible though! This bike is not meant to be ridden at or below 3500 or 5000 rpms! If I had more money to throw away, I would have done it the hard way, but I've gone the factory way on my other two bikes and I've never had a problem. You'll definitely get a different answer from different people though.

Change the filter and oil after the first 100 miles to non-syn MC oil and run the dog***** out of it-then after 500 miles change filter and oil to semi- syn MC oil and run the dog***** out of it, them after 1000 miles change oil and filter to full syn MC oil and you got it ready to rock! I promise you will enjoy that motorcycle a lot as it will run forever and be faster than most of yoiur buddies with like bikes that were broke in ***** soft.

Hi Trumpy1050,
I can vouch for it being just too hard to follow the factory guidelines. I did two return trips from Bunbury to Perth (total 900kms) to break my speedie in and that involved many hooligan bursts of speed. I couldn't just sit there doing 90-110 kms/hr for two hours at a time. So yeah, my dealer may well have been shocked to see 194km/hr logged in her brain, if he'd chosen to look. Just enjoy it and smile at those who stare!

I will get my '07 next week. All this info sounds good. The last time I ran in an engine, was when I cafe'd mt CB400F. Rebuild from the ground up. 500miles ran'er easy....after that......ran it like I stole it..1500miles now no problems... :)

Hey Yandicoogina,

I hear you, I think I will go the fast route, just make sure it's running in it's normal operating temp range about 6 bars on my screen and do a couple of hard runs to the red line.

Here goes Nothing
