I just got my beloved Creamcicle back from the dealer.I had the 500 mile maintenance done. I also had a (triumph) centerstand and engine guards installed. The bill came to $800.00. Did I get ripped off?

Yes, seriously ripped off if you are talking about that much for the labor only. I am assuming that you had paid for the center stand and engine guards and are talking about $800 for labor, oil, and oil filter. Assuming at the most, and this is really generous, one hour to install the center stand (a shop should be able to do it in a half hour at most), and one hour for the engine guards, and again, at the very most $250 for the 500 mile check (my dealer here in TN charged $135, including a gallon of Mobil 4T and a Triumph oil filter), you were overcharged by a huge amount. I don't know your labor rate there, but let's say that it's $100/hour (again, extremely generous, but it is N. California), you are talking a maximum of $100 plus $100 plus $250, or $450. A dealer charging that much here would be out of business quite quickly, but you are in a much higher cost of living area. Even accounting for that, you need to talk to the dealer. Did they give you any idea of the cost before you had them start work? How much the 500 mile check would be, and the labor estimate for installation of the parts?

The 500 mile service was $200.00(parts and labor). The engine "dresser" bars and centerstand cost $400.00 plus $170.00 for labor.
While the cost of living is higher here in Mexifornia I still think 2 hours to install the bars and stand is too much. It is true that people out here tend to be amazingly stupid but even I could've installed the bars in about 15 minutes.

sorry to hear that you got rip off... why didn't you install it yourself since you said it would only take your 15 minutes. :???: Could've been extra mod for other mods.

Shop labour rate is $95 per hour here,I put a centerstand on our thruxton ,it took at most a half hour, and looking at the engine guards on our bike they wouldn`t take much longer.I think you were over charged on the labor.May be go back and complain you may get somthing back.
P.s. I put LSL engine sliders on the bike-20min

I've heard of $200 to $250 for the 500-mile service in California, so that's not entirely out of line for the area. But the 2-hour labor charge to install the accessories is high, period. Whatever the labor rate for the area, claiming that as a 2-hour job is pushing the limits.

My dealer installed the center stand and high chrome sissy bar on my Bonneville with no labor charge. It was done when I bought the bike.
