toesnose, of course it can! I've never ridden one, but any bike with 130 hp that weighs less than 500lbs. is gonna be a wheelie machine. :) Heck, I can wheelie the heck outta my friends ZRX, and it weighs about 550lbs wet and only has around 115hp at the rear wheel. :-D And speedy, don't even git me started! :-D

toesnose, First gear, no prob. 1st to 2nd up shift, yep, there too. Second, a little more work, but yeah.

If you don't have experiance with wheelies or a dirt bike background and the front end comes up on ya, don't panic. Use the rear brake and ROLL off the throttle to stop the front from rising, no throttle chops to get it back on the ground. Don't try to stop, forward motion is your friend. Keep the bike as upright as possible and your feet on the pegs and if the bars wag when touching down, don't fight 'em, they'll smooth out quickly.

Brad

PS The down side is a crash...we're repairing the RC51 from when it was lent to a friend, and a good rider who grabbed an unexpected 50 extra HP. A 20 MPH looping crash is at the $2500 mark, and we're not through.

In first gear, sit straight up and accelerate. Let the revs build rather than whack the throttle open and dump the clutch. Your front wheel WILL come up as you get into higher revs. Be sure to cover the rear brake! Ease off gently, don't panic.
Make sure your momentum will not cause you to pull more throttle while leaning backwards. Daytona has quite linear power, so IMO it's easy to get the feel for when the wheel will come up.

There are other ways to get the front going skyward, but this is a gentle start. Also, make sure noone is nearby. I'm by no means a wheelie baron, but mine will come up in 1st and second easily. You need to find where the power lies. I usually give myself a quick reminder every ride. Wheelies are bad mmmkay.
ps..I think youd be better off getting a feel for it when you are deliberately trying rather than blasting off a slow speed corner and sending it up; going into a pucker moment. I about soiled myself the first time it came up rather high and abruptly in second gear.

I've played with a few just getting the front a few inches off the ground with the throttle, but for the most part I don't do them intentionally, but my Speedy pulled nice little one on a downshift pass around a cruiser going up to Deals Gap last summer. Suprised me.

S3 is a wheelie monster. Daytona can do anything you want it to, including wheelie all day in first. Bad on front end, however.
How do you figure its bad on the front end? Anything with a decent frame shouldnt even blink at doing hundreds of wheelies. you have to be comming down REALLY hard to damage the headtube and bearings

I heard a rumor about the Daytona that maybe some of you can confirm or deny:

Is it true that the location of the oil pickup is not conducive to wheelies? The rumor I heard is that oil will travel out of reach of the pickup and starve the engine of oil.

Thoughts? :???:

I dont think the oil pickup would be the problem as stuntguys keep on the back for a lot longer than we would with no mods and no ill effects, the head bearings are however realy screwed by hard impact over time, they should handle lots of smooth profesional wheelies admitted but not the rough handling they get from hamfisted amatures like me! :-D remember also the extra stress and strain on the whole drivechain from gearbox through clutch chain and cush also you are not being mechanically sympathetic to your loved one, do it if you can and enjoy but learn when your own bike is in for service thats what loaners are for, OH and never buy an ex demo bike from a dealer local to me! :-D :-D

fivehundo, Looking at the schematic for the triple's oiling system it seems okay for wheelies like cheapbastard's, but I wouldn't suggest running it at 12 o'clock for very long.

Thanks!

I'd heard people say that but I've never pulled the pan or seen the diagrams. I'd always wondered if it was an urban legend or not.

doodledog, I wouldn't be surprised if the hardcore stunters don't add an extra quart of oil. Another problem area is the gravity draindown from the cams. Down isn't down anymore, but a bit sideways. Back in the '80s some of the first of the four stroke enduro bikes were having issues.

Yeah, loaners and rent cars fall into the same catagory...all terrian, all purpose vehicles.
