Hi there,

Just wondering if anybody knows offhand what size the rear axle nut is? The biggest socket I can find at the moment is 19mm and it's bigger than that!

Also, because the nut is shrouded, I'm hoping that a Halfords Professional socket will have a sufficiently thin wall - does anybody know this to be the case before I drop by there tomorrow morning?

Thanks for all help,
T.

Thought it was 19mm, and just checked and my spindle does have 19mm heads on it. You sure it won't fit on yours?

Halfords Professional 12 point sockets will fit.

Thanks guys.

Indeed, a 19mm fits on the left hand side, but not the right hand side. And the Haynes manualy says it's the right hand side you need to remove to drop the rear wheel :hammer:

I've all manner of 20, 22 and 24mm ring spanners for when I've removed the axles from other bikes, but it occurred to me that this is the first bike I've had where the axle nuts are shrouded
