Here is a 150mm BTO20 on the back - this was my 2nd set of tires, I used a 140 mm GT 501 on the 3rd set and a 140 mm Azaro on the 4th set. The Azaro's have been my favorite set of tires to date. Anything wider than a 150mm will require a new rim. Even some 150mm are NOT recommended on the stock 3.5" rim. JCW

I was wondering how wide of a rear tire will fit on the Thruxton without cuttin stuff up.
Although Thruxtons arnt Choppers they certainly are Cafe Racers which fit into the category of Rat bikes or Bobbers. There for they are not stock and are Hot Rods in a matter of speaking, so I believe there are not any rules when building these fantanstic bikes much like our classics, t100's and Bonville's.

Pilot Power 180 rear/130 front.

Every time this topic comes up, I love reading how I don't ride a "real bike"...

There is no reason to get a super wide tire on the rear, that is what I meant. 180 is not that big, but these unrideable piles of shite on tv with their 300 rears are just plain bollocks.

cheers, jason

No offense, but why is a Chopper to you a piece of shite to you - because you dont like them?

They hand crafted bikes that are quite beautiful in their own rite. The paint to the frame on most of them are custom, which to me in is art, mostly due to when it comes to motorcycles and hot rods. I personally do not have a taste for them, but never the less are great bikes that are more than fun to cruise on.

To me, this is like saying Picasso's paintings are shite because I dont like them - get real!

Wow, strong feelings/opinions! I'm only curious about why you want a larger rear tire. Is it for performance, aesthetics or does it give a type of ride you like?

I've not been tempted to make this type change, but agree that a better performing tire will make a difference. That assumes you are after better performance only.

For what it's worth, the 180 is great in the twisties..and I've got the road-rashed footpegs and lower pipes to prove it.

Ride whatever you can, as much as you can...

Cheers...

I love fat(ter than stock) front tires.
Why's that? I was looking for a 90 for the front to see if it would make the bike turn in quicker but ended up grabbing another 100/90.

I did run the Bridgestone on my Tiger and it is a sweet tire. So I know a good set of rubber makes a big difference in performance. Maybe these Bonnies are so new, there hasn't been enough time for much experimentation yet. Guess I should see what tires guys are running on the track.

front 130 Pilot pic as requested....it really reduced much of the "chatter" feedback from the front. I know the picture is lousy, but I don't get home 'til late. I'll get a better one later...

cheers

It's only a 110, my apologies, Pilot Road.
I've got to quit posting after I've been drinking. :-D
