After a few years I've gotten around to wondering bout this. The brake pedal on the 59 stops,on return, when the metal that pulls the brake rod, backs against the frame. Is this typical? It wore the paint off the frame in that area. Is the frame supposed to be the pedal stop? I see nothing in the parts book that suggests otherwise.

GP and I were talking about something similar to this recently.....

I believe you're right (although I don't know how a '59 is set-up specifically).

If you undo the rear brake rod, the spring would pull the brake lever on the drum clear past the neutral point on the cam so something needs to act as a stop.

In my case I put forward controls on the bike and have no stock pedal at all...thus I had nothing to stop it from doing what i just described above.
