On the speedy there is a pull ring that you pull to remove the seat, and the locking mechanism is right about where the end of the america seat would be. How do those who put america seats on speedys attach them? (just the solo part, not the pillion) Does the america seat have the same locking mechanism as the speedy, or if not what muct be done to attach it ? Also, anyone have a corbin america seat and if so how is it as far as comfort compared to the stocker?

Daz,
When you remove the locking post on the speedy there is a threaded hole that will accept the bolt used for bolting on the America seat. The fender is the same for both the speedy and the America, so the speedy locking post can be mounted to an america for use with a speedy seat.

Corbin seems to be the same as the stock America seat. I have the corbin seat on my Speedmaster. All I did was remove the stock speedmaster mounting post (two chromed allen head bolts that reach through the fender) and then find a big chrome allen head bolt to bolt the seat to the fender. Also, I jimmied up a washer, so that the corbin mounting tab (metal) wouldn't be riding directly on the fender surface.

How do you like the corbin compared to the stock seat as far as comfort? When you say it seems to be the same, do you mean all the way around? long rides and all?

I really like the stock seat and assume the america solo is going to be the same so i might just get one of those and have it covered with leather. One thing i've learned in my years is the old saying "if it ain't broke don't fix it" is a wise one. I don't think leather is going to make it much different, but a hard seat is very different than the very soft stocker and i'm 100% happy with that feel. So my better sense says don't change. Just get a stock america seat and leather it.

MAG10: Love the look... where did you get the fender bracket/rack behind the seat? On newspeedmaster.com they don't have a version that I like. The one on your bike is more like what I envisioned. And also, what are the differences in ride/feel between the stock seat and the Corbin?

TEKart: I got that rack from newspeedmaster.com, I got it this summer but it was on back order for a long, long time.
Maybe there is a supply issue. E-mail Brent and ask about it.

My seat is a america solo seat, not a corbin. However I have been on an America with the corbin and it was very comfortable and slightly lower than the stock seat.

Anybody want a stock speedmaster seat with less than a 100 miles on it? I'd let it go cheap!

I'd have to agree with BanjoBart's write-up; better shape and contours than the stock seat, but still too firm. I actually have sent the seat back once via my dealership (where I bought the darn thing) to have it re-worked for being too firm. Instead of a padded brick, it's a padded plank, meaning that there was an improvement, but it's still too hard. If mustang would make a seat for our bikes, I'd ditch the corbin, and put a 'stang on.

For what its worth both My wife + I love our Corbins..They look great + are comfortable..very comfortable...yes there hard but who cares..my ass isn't sore..thats what counts...isn't it ? I've owned + riden 30 + bikes in my day + had a sore ass 4 the most part on all of them...even the modified stock seats were a challenge until I got tuffened up 4 the year...When on the corbin I feel better than having spent a few hours on the couch. I'm glad I spent the $$$ + I'd do it again !

Daz,
I looked at a Corbin seat, It is definately more firm than the stocker. I think the contour around the bottom was superior as well.
I really wanted something more custom, so I had a guy reshape my stock foam and put gel pad in. It ended up about 1.5" lower than stock & is far more comfortable.
Why are you getting off the speedy seat? Just for the look, or is in uncomfortable too?

Just for the look. I want to make the bike look like this by painting the tank like that with the eyebrow badges, getting a solo seat and chopping the rear fender. The paint isn't looking too likely tho because of the cost. So unless i can find someone to paint it reasonably i'm going to have to decide whether to pursue just the seat and fender. If i can't find reasonable paint i might just $hitcan the whole idea. One idiot wanted $2800 for the paint job ! He must use gold for the metalflake.

I've been kicking around bobbing the fender too, but I was planning on going to a TBS 17" rear wheel & 200 tire. I cant find the TBS wheel anywhere. Maybe I'll get a bug up my butt this winter & do it anyway.

Daz-

I haven't seen any verbage about the seats from Brent.

I know, I know, each to his own... but, for ME at least, the seat in your dream pic throws the flow of the bike off, with that curled lip in the back. Maybe that is an historically correct look, if so, mea culpa huge time. But for me, Brent's seat narrows the look of the bike, and also (again, for me) gets me lower... and lowers the look of the rear end.

Riding wise? It's firm, but the narrow-ness of it feels good. Maybe a trade off between low and narrow vs. high, cushy, and wide.

I don't know... just my 2 farthings worth.

See, this just shows how subjective things really are and how wildly tastes vary. I'm totally the opposite....i think that lip actually makes the lines better and i can't stand that seat Brent sells ! In fact, that lip is the one thing i'll miss if i get a stock america seat instead of a corbin. I was thinking when i got it leathered i could maybe have them add some foam to the lip area. If i could afford to throw away 2-3 grand on cosmetics i'd definatly try and recreate the picture, but it's looking like it might just cost that much. Just the stupid badge is $85, and it doesn't say per pair, so that could be close to 2 bills just for that. (just missed a deal in the classifieds someone else nabbed for eyebrow badges for $30 :( )
