You guys should know that computers run on electricity, and electricity is actually smoke (where do you think the term "smoke and mirrors" came from...). Smoke is stored in batteries, capacitors, chips and transistors, and travels along small tubes most people call wires.
When you let the smoke out, the gear stops working. When your TV goes FFFFTT, the smoke comes out the back, and it stops working. When you short across a battery with a wire, the tube can't carry that much smoke, and the smoke leaks out of the wire. When a globe "blows" the smoke leaks out into the glass bulb, and causes it to go dark....
Computers work on a principle of dark smoke and light smoke (1's and 0's). Happy to explain in detail if needed.
