Escort just announced the release of their 9500i detector. It's definitely at the top of the heap. It has GPS so you can "mark" false alarms and their frequency so the next time you drive by it will not sound an alert.

You can also mark known speed trap areas so it will alert you if you are about to speed past that area. It also has auto-volume that will raise and lower depending on the amount of ambient noise. Voice alerts are also in it if you don't like the beeps.

But it also now costs $450. Pretty steep, but I swear by radar detectors. My current Escort has saved me $1,000's.

Those bastards in CT have dummy radar guns every other mile on I-95. I can't wait to get one of these and be able to drive that road without a false alarm going off every 2 minutes.

I go way backwith these things having been a traveling salesman for many years-hAD SOME THAT NEVER WORKED AND SOME THAT WORKED TOO MUCH. The Escorts were my favorite until the Valentine hit and that was the top. This new Passport looks very interesting. My wife and I have probably saved $10,000 over the years what with insurance and tickets going through he roof. She was an itinerant (traveling special ed) teacher and went to many small towns where the major source of revenue was traffic fines-
she never got a ticket! I got a few during the 55MPH limit days but some of those were bogus -the cops cheated and would not show me the readouts on their guns!! lasers CAN be beat! Highway roulette can be won most the time with moderate (under 85) SPEEDS, alertness and some common sense. Gonna have to get one of these bad boys!!

+1. I have the same one and it just rocks! I have it mounted on the handlebars and use earphones, but am thinking about getting a heads up display for it. I'm sure it's already saved me plenty of dough on Angeles Crest Highway, where the cops patrol every weekend.

I shot a guy in a WRX a few days ago and whatever he had totally screwed up my laser. I could not get a reading on him head on. I could going away but he already slowed down. Something out there defeats lasers. There is hope!

3853, did you look at Radar Roy's website? He sells a kit that jams lasers. I think it uses an infrared pulse when it detects incoming laser and his test has come back with 100% reliability. He however recommends that users slow down when they detect police nearby to prevent a ticket.

I plan to get a complete 'ghost' setup for both my bike and WRX STI in the coming months if I can afford it. Black on black, 300hp/300tq, and invisible to laser/radar = priceless.

Kuhlka,

I did look at the site. This is a small island and I will probably shoot the same WRX again. If it defeats the laser again, I will find another reason to stop him and see what he has. I want one of whatever it is also!

It is not illegal to have a detector in Hawaii, only in Commercial vehicles. Federal law.

It is a great idea to slow down if you detect police presence because there are more ways to get a ticket than just a laser tag. And besides that, when a vehicle is decellerating the laser has a very difficult time locking on it.

I will keep you posted. After you get your setup fitted, you might want to get a cop to test his laser on your car for you. It may sound silly but I am sure you could find one to do it for you.
