This is way waaaaay OT.

I've been out of the dirt bike game for a while, and now that I'm thinking about getting back into it there's this big 4 stroke craze going on instead of the 2 strokes galore I once knew. I've talked to some people about it, and they act like it's of vital importance to adjust the valves every couple of rides. Do any of you have any thoughts or opinions on the amount of maint. late model dirt bikes require ? I had one or two really old 4 strokes back in the day, but I never did a thing to them except run them into the ground.

the majority of newer dirt bikes do usually need valve adjustments every 15-30 hours maybe longer depending on how hard you beat on it. it is a nesessity because one you'll go out to start it it and it wont start because a valve is open. caused by the valve seat "sinking" into the head. also depends on the valve material. my brother has an rm-z 250. has had all the valves replaced twice because the heads bend downward. just think of it as doing a top end on a 2 stroke.
yeah, not like the old stuff that would run almost forever with no valve adjustments. i have 77 xt500 that still runs great. none of the motor has ever been apart. :-D
