So, ive not got a manual for my bike (lost somewhere).
What oil for the 2005 st1050?
Also, with the dipstick, is it oil measured from it screwed in? Or resting on top of the thread?

10W/40 or 15W/50 semi or full synthetic meeting spec API SH or higher and JASO MA

Level is checked with bike upright, not on either stand, on level ground and with the dipstick fully screwed in.

Oil change is 3.2 Lt with filter and 3.0 Lt without filter change.

Oil filter torque is 10 nm and sump plug is 25 nm.

Cheers team.

I know it's a bit of a silly question, but it's been so many years since I've needed to think about it - I've managed no more than 2k miles in the last 4 years ?

My oil check today was just on the bottom of the dipstick when it was screwed in. Wanted to make sure that I wasn't measuring it wrong and that I was actually running it too low.

Now I'll get some oil and top her up :)?

I could see no oil level difference when measuring "on wheels" or on the centre stand. Checking wet sump oil levels hot doesn't seem right.

I like to check oil when the engine is hot. I think it gives you a reading closer to the oil level when the engine is actually running. I couldn't resist an oil thread.
