Welcome to TriumphRat.net Newbie!

The following guidelines are not intended to be Draconian, but to create an environment that can be enjoyed by everyone.
You can find a lot of information about the website in the FAQ

If you can also visit the forum's AUP (Acceptable Use Policy), that would be appreciated.
We encourage mutual respect among our members and while we're not prudes, try to keep content 'pg13'

Please take a moment to revisit your UserCP and complete the fields for your location and your bike year/model under 'favourite bike'.
Recognize that we have quite different model years (97-98, 99-01, 02-04 and 05+ - and even some lesser changes at 08+) so important everyone knows what bike to relate to.
These will appear under your screen name in the left margin and serve as useful ready identifiers when you have questions for the forum at any time, without having to restate these in-thread.
If you have not yet purchased your bike, please revisit that again later

We look forward to your participation - and please submit pics of your Speedy in the Picture Gallery Sticky Thread
http://www.triumphrat.net/speed-triple-forum/6484-your-speedie-pics-no-comments-please-just-pics.html
Appreciate if you follow the guidelines for that - don't respond with comments or questions to previous pics - the idea is to have uninterrupted flow of pics
(If you have questions or comments, please PM the member, or start a thread in the main discussion forum)

Do NOT request copies of service manuals in forum - this is against the TriumphRat.net AUP policy which observes copyright to this proprietary information.

If you are submitting an image, please use discretion in its content (think pg13) and limit size to 1024 pixels width max.
With todays technology we can relax the former guidelines slightly (was 800 max), but please be respectful of those who have slow access speed or smaller screens.
Resize your images accordingly BEFORE posting.

Consider using the Search function to find previous discussion on your intended subject - this forum has a wealth of information and there's a good chance your question may have already been answered.
At the least you will surely find something that may have you re-focus your question accordingly.

A note about 'quoting' previous posts:
The quote feature
is all-too-often mis-used in place of the reply icon

We don't need to see entire previous post repeated in whole and the "Reply" function should be the preferred standard medium for response.
If there is a specific element of the previous post that you wish to address however, please edit out (delete) the non-relevant content, leaving only the point you wish to reference.
Especially true with pictures - remove any images from your quote - we've already seen them and don't need multiples on the same page.
This will make the thread flow much more enjoyably for all.

Refrain from posting 'wanted' or 'for sale' items in the discussion forum - please use the classifieds for that.
Such soliciations will be deleted - they are not transferrable to the classifieds section.
You must have minimum 30 days membership and 30 posts to list in the classifieds - post away with meaningful participation to get there.
However throw-away posts (see #22 below) solely for purpose of reaching the 30-post limit will not be tolerated.

Here are 26 Helpful tips on forum etiquette:

1. Read the forums rules and guidelines before posting for the first time.

2. Search the other posts to see if your topic is already covered.

3. Use a meaningful title for your thread related directly to your question or comment - avoid generalities like 'Help!'

4. Do not use someone else's forum to promote your product, service or business.

5. Be civil. Personal differences should be handled through email or IM and not through posts displayed to everyone.

6. Stay on topic.

7. Ignore spammers, respond to them personally and not through the board, or report them.

8. Do not submit a post that requires readers to download a large attachment. Either explain the attachment or, better yet, provide a link to the information.

9. Use plain text over HTML if you want your post to be readable by everyone.

10. In order to be understood by most people, use correct spelling, grammar and avoid slang unless you know the word or phrase will be understood by other members.

11. Do not start new thread for same subject when you already have one established or cross post (place the same message across several forums).

12. Act in a give and take manner; help others as often as or more than you ask for help.

13. Do not use all caps or SHOUT in your posts. In addition, one exclamation point is enough.

14. When replying to a post, do not quote more from the previous post than you have to.

15. Do not post new problems on someone else's thread and interrupt a topic of discussion.

16. Do not use someone else’s thread for a private conversation.

17. Most forums prohibit warez, cracks or illegal downloading of software and similar topics.

18. Watch your sense of humor, posts may be read by people from a variety of backgrounds and ages.

19. Do not use a huge and annoying signature, a modest signature is fine, moderators may remove large ones anyway.

20. Do not post any information that you want private. Posts should not contain personal, identifiable information or content embarrassing to others.

21. Do not post content that violates a copyright.

22. Do not post “empty” or useless responses, such as just “lol” or “cool," or just a string of smilies or emoticons. If you have nothing useful to say, then say nothing.

23. Write concisely and do not ramble.

24. Do not use words like “urgent” or “important” in your subject line, be patient. On same note, do not bump your thread before awaiting a 'reasonable' time for responses (min 72 hrs from last post)

25. Do not chastise newbies.

26. Do not get drunk and post. If you are drunk and something seems like a good idea, then it probably isn`t. If you get drunk and post something that seems incredibly funny, the next morning it will seem incredibly embarrassing. Trust me!
