Hey All,

First let me say that I look forward to hanging out here.

I'm seriously looking into purchasing a 2000 Triumph Trophy 19K miles on it. I'm not familiar with Triumphs, but have heard that the Trophy is a good sports tourer. It will definitely be different than my current Kawasaki Vulcan cruiser.

The bike is mint. What do you think is a reasonable offer? It's got upgrades like heated grips and seats, an extra windshield, etc...

I'm looking at this bike because I want a tourer for a one-week 1500 mile trip next spring/summer. How comfortable is the bike?

Do any of you ride it in the cold weather?

Sorry for the questions but I've always been a recreational cruiser so I can use all the info I can get.

Please help.

Thanks.

I think the Trophy is a comfortable bike, for short or long trips. If you are bothered with some buffeting, you might have to change your windshield to a shorter or longer one. I like the looks of the bike with the short one.
And yes I ride in cold weather as I live in Norway :)
Its beginning to get cold here now, the current temp today was about 5 Celsius. I ride my bike from early spring until the snow and ice stops me.

Hi Strad....
The Trophy should be good bike for that trip you're talkng about. Did an 1100 mile weekend run this spring with my 95 Trophy and it was a piece of cake. Just checked the MCN used bike value guide:::2000 Trophy's listed between 4500 to 4950, low number is for the 900, high number is for the 1200. One thing to be aware of is the Trophy is a warm running bike, especially in tthe summer. Other than getting used to a different riding position, you should have a ball with the bike. As always, check the maintenance records.

Thanks fellas.

I pulled the trigger and bought a 2000 Trophy with 19K miles. I still need to get it title-transferred and registered, but I hope to get a few rides in this winter.

Strad...congrats on the purchase...ride mine all year unless on the Bonnie and except in case if ice ( now that the side hack is off) it is a great bike,,,,personally , liked it better than any of the other sport tourers I had looked at (back in '98) when I initially purchased the bike.....have fun...sheep skin pad is nice to have,,,but that is with any long run on any bike. Have averaged about 12,000 miles a year on the Trophy and except for self inflicted problems, the complaints are very few.......................

Hey thanks. Wow 12,000 miles on the bike. I did 1500 this year on my Vulcan...I can't imagine, but I suppose it's quite possible with a more comfortable bike.

You got some nice bikes there, hill.

You choose well young grasshopper. :-D I have to agree with Hill . Back in 1998 when I was looking at bikes I rode everything out there in this class. The Trophy won hands down. I figured I would have it a year or 2 and then move on to something else. Here 8 years and 70,000 plus miles later, She is still mine.

I have had a few problems (fuel gauge, coil, and ignition switch) but not too bad for 8 years. Other problems have not been the bikes fault (recent steering head bearings due to hitting something on the road). Currently I have an ignition problem the dealer is trying to run down as it has to be related to just having the front end off for the steering head bearings.

Due to the comfort and reliability, I have never been concerned about taking the bike on long trips. I have a couple 1000 mile plus days and more 1500 mile weekends than I can count. Also took a 3000(+) mile week with my wife on the back once and had a great time. There have also been trips alone to south TX (Big Bend), Mexico, and other remote areas around the country. Only problem I have ever had on a trip was a nail in the tire. Even with 70,000 miles I have no concerns about heading out on a long trip. There are guys on this board and others I have met who have many more miles than I on their Trophys and are still going strong.

I was thinking about buying another Trophy with less miles a while back, but got really good feedback from pelple with high milege Trophys that I gave up that idea. Hope this helps you feel even better about your purchase. Just keep her maintained and all should be well.

Welcome Stradivaius,

One of the coolest things you will find out about riding a Triumph is the fellowship. The first Triumph rally I went to was great. Everyone makes you feel right at home.

This group is a good example of what you will see out on the road.
As far as long distance riding goes...Comfort is the key. You must get your bike to fit you. There are a lot of posts here that cover what you need to know.

I live in Illinois, that means I ride in ALL kinds if weather. They use salt here to help with ice in winter, I put the bike away until rain washes it off the roads. Since your mount has heated grips your main dis-comfort has been solved.
Keep us informed on your adventures.

Cheers,
Tom.
