G'day everyone,

Please find below a link to an article I found I quite a reputable Australian bike website talking about possible new models in the future. I know there has been a lot of talk about this around here in the past, but I just thought I would throw this up for comment. If they bring out this big cruiser it is going to leave me in a hard position of what to do, keep the Speedy or get a new one, hmmmm, I might start saving.

Also attached is another link that talks about triumph sales.

From that article...

Mark Kennedy, Chief Executive Officer of Triumph Motorcycles America, said of the sales figures, "Now we're all going to focus on breaking Triumphs all-time US sales record of 28,500 units -- which was set in 1967 -- within the next five years."

You know what? Between the 675 and a big cruiser, they just might do it.

It's times like these I wish the US had tiered licensing. In my book, bigger ain't necessarily better.

I wish Triumph would ditch that liter twin nonsense in favor of a 500cc single Bonnie. Or even a 350cc bike. Now those would be fun little bikes.

If that 1600cc twin isn't made trendy to attract the lemmings, has triple disc brakes, sane mid-controls, and done in a way to appeal to a 52 year old traditionalist who likes to ride fast.....
then I could be interested.

But likely it'll be some gayass cruiser designed to steal from the HD sect. How sad.

Now a naked 675? I would be in jail within a week. Please let it be as tall as the current Daytona so I can't swing a leg over it.....

Isn't the big twin concept the one that has Daz salivating?

I hope it comes to fruition for him, and us, so we can sit back and regale in his enjoyment and quest for perfectly planned add ons.

He's got the eye...and the Dremel.

Hee hee......yeah. :-D actually, theres a girl at triumphtalk who swears up and down that she has a contact at triumph and has already got a deposit down for one of the first ones off the assembly line. The rumor is it's gonna be around $12k list and sport 100 HP. Yeah, you could say i'm salivating alright ! You wanna know what the biggest attraction is for me? It's the fact that with 100 HP i can leave the engine bone stock ! I hate loud pipes, but w/o them on my speedy i'm just not happy with the power. Even with them and my mods i'm a bit underwhelmed. Granted, if it's got the sewing machine sound i'd want it a BIT louder, but only about 1/2 as loud as my thunderbike pipes. I also think the stock bike is in the best form for perfect running and idle. The only things i'd do to it would be cosmetic. Then i can spend my time riding and beating the freakin %$#@ out of harleys instead of wrenching. :-D :-D :-D

Now i just gotta convince myself i can justify throwing out another 5 or 6 grand after selling the speedy! :(

Hey Dazco, I'm in the same boat as you, but I reckon i will keep the Speedy even if this bike does come out. Would love the extra HP though, but I will just get into more trouble than I already get into now.

I do not play cartball. I carry my clubs, and play golf.

:hammer:

I think a small single, if nothing else, would be sort of a Proustian, Remberance of Things Past ride.
My son just bought a used Honda Rebel as his first bike, so maybe I'll get my kicks that way.

Get yourself one of those suzuki 650 savages. The engine tho a 650 is just 30 HP and the entire bike is about the size of a 350. It's a cruiser type too. Very cool little single. Thats actually the bike that got me into looking at bikes after 20 years off and eventually led me to look at and buy the speedmaster. They're only about $4k new too.

I'm assuming that "1600cc twin-cylinder" means parallel twin, no?

I'm not a cruiser kinda guy, but from the millions of cruisers I see out there, I'd be hard pressed to find one that was not a V-twin.

What do you suppose is the risk of either:

a) Triumph falling flat with a parallel twin?
b) Triumph losing any meaningful differentiation (thus sales) with a copy cat V-twin?

Of course nobody makes much money these days betting against Mr. Bloor. That guy hasn't put a foot wrong in at least 2-3 years.

From what i've heard it's gonna be a paralell like a huge speedy. Thank god ! I've heard the 2/3 rocket rumor too, but i think that was just a rumor. i would be sorely disappointed if it IS a 2/3 rocket. But the bike has been rumored so long and still won't be out for another year, i think it must be an entirly new design to take so long. But if it turns out to be a paralell that looks as good to my eye as the speedy or even close, and has 100HP as it rumored, it will take all my inner strength not to buy one. I'm gonna try to resist but the phrase "resistance is futile" comes to mind. Just wish i didn't have to wait so long to find out whether i'm going to be broke or not. :-D By the way......i'll tell you right now, there is not a CHANCE IN HE|| it will be a V, so don't even think about it ! The notion that thats even possible is preposterous for more reasons than i could list if i spent the next month typing.

Just idle gossip and conjecture here...but the service manager at my dealership thinks that the uber Speedie will come, and that the existing America/Speedie will meld into one unit. Seems like that is already happening...
