Howdy, I've got an eight day ride through Big Bend/west TX planned in September and don't yet have a Triumph. I've done the trip once before on a KLR650 and did much less off road than I thought I would, so I sold the dual sport and bought a Honda 919. The 919 checks off all the necessary boxes for me except for classic style, and that is what brings me here.

I'm interested in picking up a Bonnevile or a Thruxton, but there is something about a Thunderbird Sport that makes the newer bikes seem docile. Hopefully you guys and gals here can steer me into the right direction.

Cheers!

It would be hard to go wrong with a Scrambler if you are looking for that classic style but the ability to do some light off-road sections. With an Arrow exhaust and a remap the bike will perform great and have plenty of power..
Maybe toss on a gel seat!

Welcome to the forum!

Definitely engage the members in several of the sections here to get the best opinions. I will link a few here.

For me, the Thunderbird Sport is the best option. I hope to add one to my garage in a few years. Now, certainly the Bonnevilles have the best aftermarket support if you plan to modify the motorcycle a lot. But the TBS is an extremely capable and exciting motorcycle, yet still with the classic Triumph looks.

Good luck with your search!

Thank you for the quick reply! I'll start posting in the other forums to narrow my search.

Since I'm looking to purchase a second hand bike, what do I need to do to have access to the classifieds section?

The Classifieds have their own set of rules, and a time and post requirement before access is granted. Please read here.

http://www.triumphrat.net/classifie...fore-placing-ad/578169-classifieds-rules.html

Most importantly;

5. You must have at least 25 posts and been a member for 30 days to access this section. (no post whoring either) (This is to build up member credibility and to deter scammers).

5a. Premium and Lifetime members are exempt from the 30 days and 25 post rule.

Cheers!
