I am at a toss up for tires. It is between the Dunlop 501 (bi ply) and the Avon A45/46 combo (radial?). Will there be an issue running radials on the Thruxton (yes I know one of the Metzlers is already).

Planned size is 100 or 110 front, and 140 rear.

I am also looking at the Avon race series tires as well.

Opinions, and recommendations welcomed.

Thanks!

Both tires should be radial, and there is a safety issue running bias-ply on wheels not designed for them. Don't do it. Radials all the way.

Bob - having run both the tires in question - I highly recommend the Avons over the GT 501's. The Avon front now has as many miles as the Gt 501 (5000) and it still runs like new - the GT 501 was cupping. The Avons also seem to track better, not follow rain grooves and weird road surfaces. Much better tread life than the GT 501. I'm running 110 on the front and 140 on the rear with the Avons.
