Hi All,
Great site. Currently ride an 06 America, good bike but its not quite doin it for me so am selling her and buying a sprint. I have found a 05 sprint with abs for 13900neg, here in OZ and i guess my question is is the 07 worth the extra 4k to buy new. Look forward to your opinions :???:

I'd say if the bike is in good condition (i.e proof of regular servicing, has had all the relevant recalls done, hasn't been crashed etc) and has reasonable mileage for it's age (I'd say about 8,000miles per year (aprox 13,000km ) for a bike is average - I'm sure peoples opinions will vary greatly with that...) and it is the colour and has the features you want then GO FOR IT! :-D

Is the 05 still under the 24 month warranty. I believe the warranty is transferable.

From a strictly economic sense it rarely pays to buy bikes/cars new. Stuff just depreciates too fast. Never a hard and fast price on used as each is relative to condition, accessories etc. (I, on the other hand, often do not do the "smart" thing!)

Steve,
sounds like a good deal, does it have panniers? And are they new ones? If you decide to buy it you may need risers as I found the bars a bit low. Anyway good luck and I'd offer 13K.

I have an 02 ST. Had the chance to buy a new 07, but love my 02 so much I chose to decline.

In regards to used Triumphs and not holding there value, I was offered a trade in value of $5,000USD for my Saphire blue 2002 ST with 24,000 miles on her. That I think is holding value.

Inretrospect, my wife traded in her 2000 Mitsubishi Galant with 75,000 miles for a new car. She was given $3,000 for trade in. My bike cost half as much and can make nearly twice the amount for trade in.

Maybe in a couple more years I'll consider trading her in...

No way. The Hurricane is considered a rare bike now. Very few were made. Very few were bought :-D Now it's a hard find.

A 1977 Bonnie in "ok" condition isn't worth $3,000

Our Sprint's won't be worth anything in 20 years. It will be just another 20 year old used bike.

Hope I still have mine to test the theory, though :lollol:

Out of 7 bikes I've ever bought, I've only bought one brand new - and that was because I got a smoking deal on a previous year bike that was still in stock and got it for less than what people were asking for their used bikes.

I've never bought a bad bike. Just check it pretty thoroughly, get a feel for the owner and if you think they're selling it for some reason that doesn't make sense - walk away. Otherwise save the money if there's not much difference from the previous year.

Hi SteveD, Welcome to the forum

Knowing the depreciation on ALL new bikes (never mind the Triumph's) I'd always look for a decent second hand model.

I got my RS 12 months old for $9500 and managed an excellent deal and a fantastic bike to boot.

New is nicer but I always think of the $2K + loss as you ride out the front doors of the showroom!!
