Never thought I'd see the day a Tiger beats a GS in a journo review !

February's BIKE mag features a 1000 mile test for the 1050 up against a Vstrom, Multistrada, and GS1200. I've yet to read the whole article but couldn't resist flicking to the end result.
Note:They did take a pop at it for build quality, putting the GS and Vstrom ahead of it !

It reads like a good, real-world test rather than a poncey 'the XXXX is a clear winner because it's 0.000034mph faster over the 100 laps' type test.

The Tiger comes out at most economical too - 45mpg overall. The press have been a bit kinder to Triumph recently, particularly since the Sprint 1050 was launched, but go through the Bike magazine archives and you'll see the same bike tested twice, a year or so apart, with astoundingly different conclusions.

I've yet to see one in the flesh ut it looks pretty good in the mag.

They also had quite an interesting article on engine configurations which put tyhe Triumph triple at the top (in Speed Trip guise admittedly).

I think Bike is improving of late, as is Ride.

Had a sit on one at Bill smith's (Chester) at last.

What a wonderful bike! It feels light, looks very 'street-sleek' and is as comfortable as my 06. But I do feel it's slipped into a slightly different class - away from the GS & KTM completely so really deserves comparisons with Fazers and DLs.

I have mixed feelings about the smaller metal tank - less practical and less sturdy, but it does suit the bike well. It will be interesting to see if the weight advantage, which was noticable on the showroom floor with the bare bike, will be noticable when fully loaded, 2 up, with tank-bag, panniers and topbox stuffed to the gillies. It's got to be worth a test ride, anyway.

When the 07 was first amnmounced, there were cries for a second 'trail-oriented' version. If Triumph really wanted to, they could bring such a version out that would be a class-beater......the giant trailie sector is now looking a little sparse.

A friend of mine who rides a 1050ST had a 2 hour test ride on the new Tiger from Woods of Abergele. He was very impressed with the engine, handling and riding position. I very nearly just bought a 2nd hand Daytona 955 as I was missing the excitement/sports performance. I suspect a test ride of the new Tiger might provide the answer. The problem is that I would need to spend at least an additional £1600 for all the extras to bring the spec up to my 05 Tiger. Hence it may be more economic to buy a private sale Daytona or Speed Triple to compliment the Tiger. Then trade them both in a couple of years against a Tiger. One of life's dilemmas.
