I need to know the 'length' of the tach drive housing for a unit 500. I suspect my bike has the housing from a 650 on it. If I could please get someone with a unit 650 and someone with a unit 500 to please measure and post the length of the tach drive housing, I would really appreciate it. Not the upright piece where the cable mounts, but the actual body that mounts to the side of the engine.

Note: I'm talking about the tach drive unit that mounts to the primary side of the engine just below the barrel and contains the drive gear that is driven off of the end of the tach.

Thanks in advance.

It's slightly shy of 2". This being from the slotted screw that holds the housing in place to the base(crankcase).
Hope this helps.

Measured my tach gearbox on my '71 T100R..

The housing (horizontal part) is 1.45" from end to end NOT including the slotted cap.
Thanks, McQueen!

So ... mine mics at 1.7". Apparently, the PO used a 650 tach drive housing when they added the tach to the bike.

Anyone have a '69 or later unit 500 tach drive they're interested in selling?
