Decided to replace my standard and as far as I know original 18,000 mile chain and sprockets this weekend.
I was approaching removing the front sprocket with a good deal of trepidation after all the tales of impact wrenches and the like.
You can imagine my reaction when after I straightened the tab washer the sprocket nut just spun off. It wasn't even really finger tight.
Amazingly and this is what I mean by luck, there was no sign at all that the sprocket had moved on the spline or done any damage.
But it's a bit unnerving to think of the speeds I've been up to, with the nut only held on by the tab washer.
