In reaction to a thread in the Sprint forum, I submit the following.

I don't like my Sprint because:

1. Even though I have rain gear, I don't like riding in the rain, and sometimes it (the rain) is enough to keep me off the bike (like today, 40F and raining hard).

2. It goes too fast.

3. It makes me wear out my rear tire.

4. It pulls me away from my "priorities".

5. The sun goes down and I can't ride as hard. This is obviously the bike's fault too.

6. When I come in at the end of the day and take my gear off, all I want to do is get back on the bike and keep riding, and riding, and riding.

7. Riding twisites is dangerous and I am just looking for trouble.

8. That triple will pull in any gear at nearly any speed.

9. It makes so many other bikes feel like they are lacking.

10. It's almost always on my mind.

There's so much more, but rather than typing I think I'll go look at the bike in the rain and ***** some more about how unhappy it makes me.

Longpath,

I was thinking about adding a Sprint to my stable, so I appreciate the warning.
I know the Triumph twins all seem to share the same problem of garnering too much attention in public places and providing too few maintenance challenges, so can you tell me if the problems you’ve described apply to all model year Sprints?

Thanks in advance,

Tom

I really don't know. I'd guess that the amount of trouble you'll have with a Sprint is inversely proportional to the amount of horsepower, torque, and handling prowess it has. I know mine will haul ass and hold corners far better than I can, so I have a lot to gripe about. If you have one running on one cylinder and on car tires, then I guess you're lucky then and you don't feel the urge to go ride it all the time.

Jen, as usual I'm going to display my ignorance with utter shamelessness and ask you to explain your last comment; were there areas of Oz that didn't have speed limits?

hidesert,
the Northern Territories have just brought in or rather are bringing in speed limits I think of 130kph to the open road areas.

Previously apart from in towns there was no open road speed limit in NT you could drive as fast as you like.

They also have the long Road Train semi trailer truck rigs with 4 or more trailers.

NT is a big wild place.

Lots of big wild life too, you cannot swim in the rivers or the sea..........Salt water or Esturine crocs abound so do water buffaloes, emus kangaroos, Dingoes, lots of sharks, box jellyfish oh and Drop Bears!

Did I miss anything Jen?

Sort of like Queensland but with more water! :-D :-D :-D

Thanks for the warning, after two aircooled twins in a row I'm having serious I-4 withdrawals. It looks like I'd have the same problems with a Sprint that I had with the Suzuki's, Kawasaki's and Honda.

I also hate motorcycles and ride the wheels off them in the hopes they'll wear out faster. It's my goal to wear out as many motorcycles as I can in the hopes I could save just one person from the horrible fate of bimbleing along with their knees in the breeze, blithely unaware of the danger their in.

Don't thank me, really....it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make....(sniff)..

My Sprint RS exacerbates my carpal tunnel syndrome too much. I'm 80% sure I'm going to sell it - some time soon - but it's hard to imagine life without it. Fokkin' pain-in-the-a$$ Sprint! :brk:

If anyone knows of someone who could give it a good home - and maybe visitation days.
