I did electrolysis to remove rust and paint years ago on the oil bag it worked very well. Stored with oil back then once I drained it out of storage the inside wasn't as clean as I had it at least the clear coat on outside still looks good.

So I'm getting the oil bag all cleaned up again this time used metal rescue came out sweet.

Yes I am, I wrecked one fibre wheel due to a chipped tooth on the inlet cam gear which wore through the fibre. Bought a new cam wheel and fibre wheel and it’s been fine since. It does worry me a bit though. I’d quite like to get the mag converted to cable advance and fit an alloy timing wheel.
Apparently you can get the magneto converted to full electronic ignition now.
But I do quite like the whole simplicity of the magneto, I had it overhauled back in the 90s and it still works well!
You might find the points have closed up, the operating cam ring must be spotlessly clean, no rust or it will wear the fibre points lifter away, just a smear of grease or drop of oil on the felt if present.

Appreciate the info yes I too like the mag with points Bth mag here I have a k2 on my 57tr6.
I think the fiber gear is a good idea lot more forgiving than metal on metal.

Fingers crossed the armature didn't swell up on me BTH mag

Welp I rolled the dice and lost... found out my slip ring gave up the ghost.
Looks like I'm gonna be on the hunt for a rebuilt Bth magneto now.
On the plus side looks like the auto advance unit backed off and spun on taper when the mag locked up.
Just thankful it happened less than 10 blocks from home and not 10 miles or more.

Ah that’s a shame man, hopefully won’t take long to find a mag.
If yours has the 3 bolt flange I think you can fit a Lucas K2F? (or if your really stuck, Wassel make a fake one with Electronic Ignition inside)

Some updates to the build over the last couple of weeks.
Added a oil tank vent to my chaincase since mine was missing late night at the pub back in 1951 ? With the help from Newsh he was nice enough to take pics of his 52tbirds vent I found out how it was supposed to be.

I was able to get enough miles on for engine oil change Sunday.👍
Looking forward to some back road trips still would like to find a couple missing parts for this t-bird of mine.
