I was just checking the bike (2000 Thunderbird) before a ride and one of the screw parts of the mounting tube just fell off. So I just have one bolt holding the directional signal and headlight on the right side. Is there a method to fix this mounting tube without taking the whole staunchion assembly off?

Thanks

Remove the top clamp, leave the forks in the lower clamp.

Once you get the tube off you could repair it like this -

Drill the broken bolt out and file the hole square -

Then get one of those round headed stud bolts from the hardware store and file it flat, like so -

You could then either glue it in with epoxy or super glue or something. The square hole stops it from turning.

Problem solved :).

Check the condition of the rubber bushings between the fork tube and headlight tube mount. One of my side plates cracked due to deterioration of the bushings. I could see this causing the bolts to shear also.
