A local auto parts store has a jack on sale. I've never used one.

What part of the bike do you support? The engine isn't flat on the bottom and I wouldn't want to lift the bike by the pipes. It doesn't look like it would be real secure.

Are these kind of jacks usefull? How do you use them without worrying about the bike falling off or the whole jack tipping over?

You put blocks of 2x4 between the flat part of the sump & the jack, & it's not terribly stable. That being said, you just have to be careful not to knock it over, & having the bike up off the ground can save you hundreds of bucks in chiropractor bills.

Also, depending on what you need access to, ratchet straps can help hold the bike in place on the jack.
