So I've just acquired my first bike and was looking into getting a cover for it. A coworker of mine that has been riding a while said that I shouldn't get a conventional motorcycle cover because it won't breath and will promote rust. He said that the best thing to do was to cover the bike with a fitted sheet. His reasoning is that even though the bike will get wet, it will be able to dry off better than if it was under a conventional cover.

Anyone ever heard of this or tried it?

Not sure I agree with that one... In any case, most "true" motorcycle covers nowadays are completely waterproof and breathable. The one I used to use was lined with a fleece type of material that was soft and prevented scratches to the paint. I keep the bike in a shed now but I swear it stayed cleaner under that cover. They work really well.

I use a Dowco Guardian Weatherall Plus Cover (size = medium). I have a T-100 with summer shield and fabric panniers. The cover fits perfectly (also before I installed the panniers) and seems to keep the bike clean and dry. Its been parked outside. Been using it for 2 months and so far, no rust. I've been very happy with it.

I get some condensation under the Dowco Guardian. But I think its better than nothing. Remove the cover after a rain.
BEWARE - I had a storm blow real hard and it blew the bike over with the cover on it. I was dumfounded and a bike guru explained that the bike problably wouldn't have gone down without the cover - its the additional surface area.
It was a real hard blow and the bike was out in the open.

i also have no garage and have to park my bike outside with a cover on. my biggest problem is cats peeing on it. it seems to be that after one cat pees on it, the rest of the cats in the neighborhood have to out do the other ones. ive tried repellant from the pet store which did nothing. anyone have any ideas (short of anitfreeze)
