Same rules as the last few years: Submissions for "Most Improved 2012" SHOULD have a "before" shot, se we can better appreciate the "after" shot. If you don't have one, post the oldest/earliest shot of your project in-work.

AT LEAST one clear "after" side shot in decent light, close enough to appreciate detail (preferrably one of each side).

Include a link to your build thread/blog IF YOU HAVE ONE. If you don't have one yet, why not start one now? You have plenty of time before the deadline to post up pix and tell us about your build in more detail than the submission post.

Keep your description to the basic specs: year, model, significant modifications and details, total time to build (if known), etc. You don't have to share cost unless you want to, and you can "ballpark" it.

Submissions should be SUBSTANTIALLY COMPLETED, RUNNING bikes, having been COMPLETED during calendar year 2012 (doesn't matter when you started), unless you are new to the forum and have never entered your bike in past years.

The spirit of this project is to showcase MEMBER BUILD PROJECTS, so please do not submit a bike you purchased and made a few simple changes on. If you overhauled a blown engine, that would count; strip-down to the frame for a re-paint & new tires, that kind of thing.

As always, voting will be open to all TriumphRat.Net members.

Ok.. I'll start the ball rolling..

Started with four boxes of parts that I bought from the other end of the state and began from there.
Started a spreadsheet with parts bought, parts made, where sourced and cost.. so far we're up to around $20,000 Oz dollars and still spending and here's why :).....

1967 T100T frame, 1973 t100R Daytona engine, fully rebuilt.
Morad Akront flanged alloy wheels with Grimeca 4L/S front brake and Honda 350 full width alloy rear with custom stainless stay run direct around the swing arm.
Speedo gears fitted to the front wheel and custon stainless front brake linkage rods with rod end bearings fitted.
Brand new Norton Manx forks with alloy yokes, custom instrument bracket and modified damper rods.
Hand made carbon fiber front mudguard, central oil tank, seat undertray/electrics bay and Dunstal style seat with battery,
fuse box, horn and electronic relays all under the seat hump.
Every circuit has it's own dedicated, separate wiring loom and fuse.
Park/running lights and brake light are all led high brightness / low current units.
Custom made rear struts with 40 position damper settings and ride height and preload adjusters.
Custom steel chainguard wrapped with carbon for improved visual appearance.
Custom rear sprocket, machined front sprocket and DiD 530 gold "X" ring chain fitted.

BNR primary drive belt system with custom made clutch/output shaft seal assembly to keep the chain case completely dry.
Tri-Spark ignition system, dual coil and 3 phase high output alternator and Tri-Spark regulator.

Exact replica Daytona 500 race fuel tank from Glass from the Past which I lined with Caswell epoxy from new.
Custom stainless cylinder head steady, alloy front engine plates and high polished nickel plated rear plates.
Custom rearsets/gear lever linkage and brake pedal setup with Ducati/Cagiva alloy folding fotpegs in fabricated stainless brackets.
Bonneville exhaust headers with 30 degree custom mid section stainless bends and Dunstall patterm mufflers all push fit, sealed with silicone with integral brackets on all 3 sections.
All cables are hand made with telfon lined outers.
Carbies are new 28mm Wassels with gauze ended ram tubes.
Gearbox is fitted with a close ratio 4 speed cluster.
Alloy brake and clutch levers are fitted and have been modified to allow position adjustment and all the pivots were bored out and brass bushings fitted for smoother operation.
Custom alloy steering damper fitted along with 2 inch electronic tacho and 0-100psi oil filled oil pressure gauge.
Alloy headlamp brackets support the chrome 7 inch headlamp and a twin cable fast pull twist grip is fitted to the period chrome clipons
The rear footpegs and mufflers hang off 1/2 inch thick custom alloy brackets.
An alloy oil filter housing with integral brackets was made and fitted out of sight between the lower frame rails and attached directly with the subframe through bolts.
A spin on filter is fitted (Z386) and is plumbed in the return line.
Braided telfon lined fuel hoses are fitted along with modified rocker feed fittings and braided hoses as well as finned rocker caps.
Tyres are Avon.
Anything else, we either nickel plated, gold plated or both! :)

Hardest part of the project was the carbon stuff, had to make wood/cardboard models of each part, take a fiberglass mould from the model and then lay up the final product in carbon fiber.
I did the seat, oil tank and front mudguard, then wimped out and bought the fuel tank in as I had no way to accurately make an exact model of the original Daytona racer tanks which was
important to me as this bike is an almost exact copy of my old bike from the day but more importantly I wanted to pay tribute to the blokes who built and raced these fantastic little machines
at Daytona so successfully all those years ago. and inspired me with the original bike, (pictured here, a 1960 T100A converted to Daytona spec in full race trim)

1973 TR7RV Cafe-Style Special

  • Paint by Sean Lezotte at Connecticut Cycle Refinishing.
  • Hand pinstriped by the legendary Alan Johnson.
  • Powder coated frame and cycle parts.
  • Hardware cadmium plated.
  • Completely rebuilt motor: Sludge tube cleaned; all seals, gaskets, tab washers, and bearings replaced; original bore lightly honed. NOS Federal Mogul pistons and rings. Piston/cylinder clearance .0045.
  • Three angle valve job with new valves, guides, springs, collars.
  • Clutch rebuilt with new basket (original sustained broken teeth in crash), Norman Hyde seven plate kit, Barnett Racing T120 springs, and Venhill Featherlight cable. (Effortless two-finger operation. Immeasurable improvement.)
  • Broken primary cover replaced.
  • Carburetor cleaned and rebuilt.
  • MAP Cycle external oil filter.
  • NOS Webco points cover.
  • NOS Dunstall Power silencers.
  • Custom billet yokes and gauge mount.
  • Gauges refurbished by Nisonger.
  • NOS Tommaselli headlight ears.
  • Clip-on handlebars.
  • Magura master cylinder and braided steel front brake hose. (Will eventually replace rotor and caliper with something lighter and better looking. But I'm out of money.)
  • New Doherty throttle and cable.
  • NOS Granturismo grips.
  • New fuel lines and custom billet petcocks.
  • Akront Morad shouldered alloy rims, stainless spokes, polished stock hubs, Avon Roadrider tires.
  • Simplified electrical system (positive ground) wired from scratch with 16g automotive wire and soldered Lucas-style connectors.
  • Boyer Electronic Ignition, Tympanium, single dual lead coil.
  • Sealed beam headlight.
  • Clubman rear set footrests.
  • 340 mm/13.4" Hagon shocks.
  • Forks rebuilt with new seals, new stanchions, and progressive springs.
  • Converta Manx-style front fender mounts.
  • Fiberglass retro side covers.
  • Renold rear chain.
  • Corbin gunfighter seat.

I'll put mine in, I'm not sure if it qualifies or not. I bought it as an unfinished project back in August. The first picture is what the other guy started with.

This is what it looks like now other than I have installed new header pipes since those pictures were taken.

Why bother, I could never beat any one of those excellent entries. Kudos to those guys and their great work!
Henry, I've entered MANY bike shows knowing full well I had no chance of competing with high dollar builds and fat-tire choppers in a crowd of v-twin and cruiser lovers.

That's not the point. It's more about getting to appreciate the variety, and learning new tips & tricks from all possible sources.
