Mechanic dumped my baby.

Picked up a stupid staple in my rear tire on the way to Laguna Seca. Finally got around to getting a new tire. After waiting an hour, they call me in the back, and inform me there's 'been an accident'.

One of the guys took her out for a test ride (I don't remember anyone ever doing that before when I got tires?). He spun out pulling out of the driveway. I told him she doesn't like strangers and bucked him off. =)

Anyway, damage includes rear peg and mount, front peg and mount, rear brake lever, engine case, bar end, rizoma bar end mirror, front brake lever, and front indicator.

They are fixing it, obviously, and also waiving the current service and parts. Also, next time i bring it in, for whatever, it's on the house. I expect to get a set of tires, brakes, and perhaps a chain out of it. Still doesn't make the sick feeling go away that my baby's been on the ground.

Oh well... the guy felt like *****. His buddies told me to go kick over his bike. haha..

PS: It wasn't a Triumph dealer.

A test ride definitely isn't part of new tires. Funny, they always tell you to be carefull for the first 100miles or so too, guess he didn't heed that rule. Imagine he'll get fired, at least he should.
I think they ought to make him work for free till he pays it off! :kck:
That Sucks. Next time just bring the wheels in.

+1 :-D then fire his ass! :-D
The bloke was taking the piss.

Riding YOUR bike after changing a tyre????

I'm happy for you that you think so light of this.

Personally I would ask to see WHERE, in writting, THEY have the right to joyride YOUR bike.

If not forthcoming of an answer, consider calling the police or at least let the dealer think you are gonna call the police/trading stadards.

Fcuk knows what else the idiots damaged but don't tell you.

Maybe if the dickhead did not spin it over he would have rev limited it in every gear and you would have not been told.

I know how you feel Moondog. I was not so unlucky but once caught a mechanic on a test ride doing 70mph + on a side street "testing" my bike. I waved at him as he went past. The guy didnt know it was my bike and gave a "cool dude, look at me" sort of wave back. It was in for a minor service, the head bomber tried hard to bull his way out of it to protect the youth thrashing my little baby (dont laugh it was a cb250 in 1980) his face said it all and when the kid was confronted he said he just wanted to see how it compared to his gt250 (much faster than mine I guess).
After it all I got my service free.
Nice one.

An acquaintance of mine had his MV Agusta F4 picked up by Beaudry Motorsports for service. He lives in Washington state, Beaudry is in Idaho, but they offer pickup and transportation at a charge. My friend documented the miles on the odometer prior to handing the bike over. When they called him to let him know it was ready he asked for the odometer reading. I don't know the exact number, but something like over 100 miles had been put on the bike. Definitely more than a service test ride. Turns out the driver of the transport truck would take the bikes out to move them around to make space for other bikes he was picking up, or dropping off and he liked to joyride a few of them along the way. My friend was less than happy and I think all Beaudry offered was an apology, but no free service.

That's a given. Dude just wanted to see what those new Triples would really do. Only a piece-of-$hit dealer would joy ride a customer's bike.

There's a dealer here that does it regularly. I don't take my bike to them, but plenty of people do. Guys from there occasionally show up at our weekly Euro ride night on customer's bikes.
Many years ago, I took the GPz to New Orleans with the girlfriend at the time on the back. About 25 miles outside NO, the bike died. Had to get it towed in, left it at a shop there and took a rental car home.

One week later, I called them to see if it was fixed. They said yeah, so I headed back to pick it up. Upon arrival, I was met by the very grim service manager. Right after talking to them, they went to lower the bike rack and the thing fell off, cracking the fairing, etc.

The following week, I went back to pick it up, finally all fixed, no charge.

So, 36 hours of driving back and forth to NO. Had to pay for tow and rental car. Ended up breaking up with the gf on accounta for the last trip, I got another female friend of mine to take me to pick it up and, well, you know, it's New Orleans. Of course, the gf found out. But no charge for the bike.

The cause of the malfunction? A simple clogged fuel filter.

My mechanic test rides my bike after every little service, including tires. I don't mind, he's a responsible guy in his fifties and been working on bikes for years. H e said he does this because problems can creep up on people and they can get used to 'em, it's a good way to feel and listen to the bike for anything that might be wrong.

I called the Triumph dealer where I bought it, and they said they ride every bike they work on as well, even if its just a tire change. It makes them feel much better to know there is nothing amiss before letting a customer ride off into traffic.

I'm not going to make a big deal about it. I'll end up with about $600 of parts and service from them. Still don't like the feeling seeing her all banged up, though.

Don't most service agreements you sign when you drop off the bike allow for test ride by the service personnel?

Knew a guy who dropped off his boat for service, only to run into the owner's son and a couple of his friends at the lake in his boat a few days later. They had loaded tubes, skis and ice chests in the boat ready to party when they were busted. Claimed they were taking it for a test run after the service work.
My local dealer (non-triumph) test rides my bike after every service, tires and otherwise. The reason is the same listed in the tread above. They want to make sure the bike has no little problems that have creeped up on the owner. That being said I have the utmost faith in them, the mechanic is a good friend of mine and he is uber gentle with the bikes during his test rides. Besides if he ever f&*ks it up I know where he lives! :-D
