The guard/guide for the chain on my 06 has fallen off.

This is the one under the chain at the front. It protects the frame and is [ shaped.

Can someone check their bike and see if it is actually held on by anything or if it just clips in place.

I don't know if something has broken off it or not.

One bolt on top, one on bottom, at the ends of the guide.

This piece is only about 3 inches long and fits up behind the piece of plastic that the end of the side stand rests against when it's up.

I can't see any holes to attach it.

We're talking about two different parts. Sorry, I was speaking of the plastic piece that acts like more of a swingarm guard. It wraps around the front left side if it. If you meant the piece directly below that, I can't see any way that it's fastened, It's too dark right now......

Yep it's the lower one.
Thanks for trying, it's also usually pretty oily down there.

That piece clips on, I got a little over zealous one day while cleaning. Clipped right back on.

I just found it loose next to the chain.

Hivel, nope we just shared 16 years. I'm nearly 3 times that.
