I just returned from a two week trip; my wife said the dealer had called and left a message - my pipes had arrived - great!
Had them installed today - Hogslayers, Triumph Air Filter, 20310 tune. They sound a little louder at idle and cruise - nice sound, just right. But if I wind it up or accelerate hard - wow! And there's more power, no question. I'm a happy camper. :D
But - the icing on the cake - when dear wife followed me to the dealer to bring back my original pipes, she said she noticed that my lights were not as bright as some other bikes. She said I need a light bar so I stand out better in traffic! Smart woman - never argue with her - light bar on order! :bow
BTW - dealer said to ride for a couple of days and then do the 12 minute tune again. He said they did it once but that it was good idea to put a few miles on the bike then do it again. And that I might notice a some backfiring on hard deceleration which might clear up as it self adjusts.
Love the Hogslayers - the sound, the look AND the feel. :HappyRoll

I've read nothing but positive reviews about these pipes. I would be very interested in buying them, but I just can't get past the look of the squiggly bend at the front of the them. It looks like something that should be on a Bonneville, and doesn't really go with the Thunderbird styling.

I understand, I felt the same way about the flared out look of the originals. Personally I prefer the sleeker, slightly shorter, straight back look of the Hogslayers. And, looks aside, I am very pleased with the sound and performance. Wait, I think I already mentioned that! :D

Couldn't agree more!

Congrats Oldgrey!

The pipes really wake up the bike especially on low end. My bike is running better after putting some miles on it, mostly less popping on hard decel. I'll run another 12min adapt later as well.

Pipes are awesome huh! Subtle but boy they roar when you want them to!!

I agree that the shorter pipes do look better, but that is on a bike with no saddle bags. What concerns me with shorter pipes is that I'd like to put hard bags on the bike at some point, and I don't like when the pipes don't extend as far back as the bags.

You're the first person i heard say that, I thought i was alone in that. It bothers me too, and the bonnevilles that have it have always bothered me. It just doesn't look right to my eye. Then i saw bonnies with the dunstall looking ones and i new thats what i would have to have if i had a bonnie. I also have to say that those with TOR shorties have been equally happy with the sound and power. I for one think they are the best think i've done for the bike and that includes the BB kit ! Tho you gotta have both if you really wanna party. :D

Gratz on the pipes! I'm dreaming of putting aftermarket pipes on in the spring... can't decide which ones. I'd love to see some pics, oldgreybull. Any chance you could post a couple?

mine came with a set of covers that clamp onto the pipes to hide that 'squiggle'. not too different that the stock covers that hide the cat and make the stock pipes look continuous.

Will do tomorrow, don't want to chance spilling any of this fine Chilean Carmenere I'm sipping!
The Hogslayers are the best add-on's I've made - really nice.

I took me an extra day, but here are the pics:

They are slightly shorter and fit in close and tight. I'm really delighted with the sound and the performance.

I just had mine put on and they did the download (not sure which one). The bike idles high so I'll probably do the 12 minute tune. They definitely look better than the stock. The real difference in sound is during acceleration. I like that because when I ride behind other bikes that are on the loud side it's easier for me to know when to shift if I can actually hear my bike. I know it sounds stupid, but true for me.

Anybody run into any problems that live in States that have SMOG/Emission inspections with the CAT gone? In NC it's technically illegal to tamper with the emission system = Fail.

You will of course run into problems if you fail an emission test.
However, only 9 of the 100 NC counties do tailpipe emission testing (WAKE, FORSYTH, GUILFORD, DURHAM, GASTON, CABARRUS, MECKLENBURG, ORANGE and UNION).
In addition, diesel vehicles, RVs AND motorcycles are exempt from testing in any case.
So you can determined for yourself what the odds are of running into any problems.
I'd recommend changing the tailpipes and not messing with the emission system... But hey, I don't understand all that technical stuff anyway... :D

Yep I agree, I was just thinking about this as it applies to all 100 counties as an inspection item and not an emission tail pipe test. Motorcycles are only exempt from the Tail Pipe Emission Test in NC. That's why I was concerned about removing the CAT to put on new pipes or even just bypass the CAT with the tube mod or chamber mod.
19A NCAC 03D .0541 EXHAUST EMISSION CONTROLS
1. Any vehicle shall not be approved if the vehicle is subject to inspection with any of the visible emissions control devices placed thereon by the manufacturer are missing, disconnected, made inoperative or have been altered without approval of the Department of Environment, Health, and Natural Resources.

Your call of course, however I personally have never seen an inspection station in NC express the slightest interest in the design of my exhaust system. Besides, my Hogslayers proudly display the Bristish Customs logo.
Anecdotal evidence of course, but the road guard plate on the CAT of my 87 F-150 pickup fell of long ago - 302 FI V-8 runs great and passes every year.
Your original question was regarding the risk of running into problems.
If you pull up and say you've removed the CAT and wonder if that falls under 19A NCAC 03D .0541 you will probably have a problem (or maybe not...). If you are seriously concerned than be happy with the OEM you have.
BTW, have you asked your dealer if he's installed any Hogslayers?
And, just to be provocative - does running a different Tune alter the emmisions? If the answer to that is yes, then so does the 12 minute Tune since you really have no way of knowing what parameters were "tweaked".
Also, what does "altering" mean? Is replacing the stock exhaust with anything else altering?
My T-Bird is registered in Florida - no inspections here.
My Suzuki Volutia is registered in North Carolina and generally gets an offer to buy when I take it in to be inspected. Have I altered anything on it? I'll have to think about that, no one has ever asked me...
