Hi Guys,

Like most people i've been bitching about the lights on the sprint st (06) for the past while! Ive done the bulb upgrades etc... but no improvement!
What I wanted to know was .... has anybody here ridden both the new 675 and the sprint st at night and can you tell me how the main beam on the 675 compares with the sprint ?

I know the 675 is probably a bit sportier, but i don't want to leave the triumph brand and that sweet tripple if its the last thing i do. I've also fallen in love with the look of the 675 so its probably me just trying to justify to myself the 675!

But I am an every day biker and when i ride at night (in in the morning when its bright most of the year) and home in the evening (when its dark most of the year) i take my safety paramount and that means good lighting... regardless of bike.

Also has anybody here done a real world comparison between both bikes....

Hey Wolf,

I just happen to be fortunate enough to own a '05 ST (silver) and a '06 675 (red). You will notice me as the bloke who walks around with a permanent smile!

To say the 675 is a bit sportier than the Sprint is quite an understatement. The Daytona is a pure sports bike, so if youre thinking of getting one to replace your ST, it wont be as comfortable on long rides or as forgiving in general. She demands respect but requires a firm and confident hand.

One of the first mods a lot of owners do is fit bar risers. I have Cycle Cat adjustable bars on order. Apparently these make it a little more user friendly for everyday street riding. Then of course there is the usual stuff like the seat being only slightly softer than a plank, the suspension is harder but a lot more fun in corners. Luggage options are limited depending on how much you carry, shorter fuel range, etc etc.

Having said that, you can tour on anything if you want, its up to you how you set it up. Horses for courses and all that.

For me the 675 is the real fun machine. Sunny day RAT rides. Maybe the odd weekend away, carrying little more than my licence and a credit card. I ride it to work when the weather permits as there is a nice piece of twisty tarmac I can take.
It gets a little more attention than I thought it would, I guess theyre still thin on the ground on our island.

The ST will do everything else.

As for lighting, I am investigating alternatives for the ST and will probably go for a HID kit to replace the high beam and get a spread of light in place of the pencil beam.

I find the lights on the 675 to be surprisingly good. Being a shift worker I am riding in the dark at some point every day. They do the job, so I will probably leave them.

If you go to triumph675.net there is a thread on HID converstions.

Theres also a bunch of people on this site that have gone the HID route with the ST. From what I understand so far, the centre light is relatively simple. To do all three is a major operation in terms of mounting the lights and getting all the wiring and ballasts correct.

It was very easy for me to justfy buying the 675 - they're sexy. I wanted one!

And keeping the ST? - I just couldnt part with it!

Hope this helps.

Brett.

i_wolf, I posted some info a couple of days ago with my experience converting the high beam to HID. IMO, it's well worth the expense and time to mount. I did a lot of research reading what people on this board and HID boards had to say.

The way I look at it Triumph should make the HID standard. But, given the situation as it is, I would pay the same cost for the set every year to have a decent high beam.
