One of my buddies recently bought a KTM 950 SuperMoto, and I rode it in the mountains last weekend. I thought briefly about selling the S3 and getting one (but then slapped my face and came back to reality). It was an incredibly light, fun and flickable bike to ride - not quite as fast as our 1050's, but it didn't seem to matter. This Superduke looks like an even more serious bike. Could be dangerous on the wallet.

I got real close to buying one of these over the summer (not the R model) out of Washington State. $16,500 was their price for new 2006 models sold as used bikes (due to DOT I presume). I bought the S3 instead (used) and have $9,000 left over to buy stuff with and probably a more fun bike too. Granted, the 990 would be an attention getter if you're into that.

Apparently, some people didn't read what I said earlier, because they're saying they kind of like the way it looks. With that in mind I shall repost my earlier proclamation, and remphasize the whole thing from a transformers butt.

I'm not into the looks of the thing either (too many angles), but the performance promised is pretty compelling. And when I'm sitting on it going 100, I really couldn't give two sheeets what it looks like. The Speed 3 isn't the most beautiful bike on earth, but it's the most fun bike I've personally ridden. period.

Oh, and I've never hung around transformers long enough to see what comes out their butts.

With all the available video footage enticing the folks out there about the capabilities and prowess of this thing dont you think Triumph ought to create a slamming video promo of the S3. Ugly, decepticon lookin' or not I'm drooling over this thing.

I think these bikes originate from separate ends of the streetfighter arena; the s3 and it's sportbike roots yet the SuperDuke from the eduro/motard side of things bring their own flavor...all these nice bikes..so little time..

I KNEW that's get somebody's goat!!!!!! Let me just call it, girl-next-door-looks. Which is pretty good from my point of view (you oughta see my neighbor). You gotta admit the S3 is quirky looking, that's why 98% of the motorcycling world dont get it. But the other two percent will chase you down in a restaurant to ask about that "cool bike" that you rode in on. That happens to me lately and has never, ever happened before with any other bike.

Call me shallow (all together now: "You're shallow!"), but looks matter, and Euro's right. Of course, visual appeal is a matter of taste, and there's really no right or wrong, but I wouldn't buy one, and design is the main reason. I like the Tuono. I like the R1200S. But this is just taking the whole angular aesthetic over the top.

And do ya think KTM could maybe, one day, come up with another color scheme besides orange and black? It's getting old.

I don't care if it goes like stink if the styling strikes me as a turd. And I don't care if it looks like a million bucks if it doesn't go like stink and handle well (if that were the case, I'd buy a Harley).

I want BOTH, in a well-balanced package. Call me greedy.
