Has anybody tried detergent, degreaser or solvent on their K & N filters to clean them? I have plenty of K & N oil, but no cleaner. I dont want to ruin the glue or the element. There must be something that works.
I would think detergent is tool bubbly and degreaser is to harsh. As sweatmachine said, any autoparts store, even walmart, has the cleaner. It's not expensive and lasts over a years worth of cleanings.
K&N's ex-VP of Engineering told me it was fine to wash them in Joy detergent and warm water. I've been washing the K&N's in my airplane, bikes and jetskis for 20+ years in Joy without any problems. I do, however, use K&N's proprietary red filter oil.
