First, my bike runs stronger than it ever has (at least to the butt dyno).

Now, the jets supplied with my NARK/FREAK kit were 128/42 and I added a shim (2 total) to my Thruxton needles. The extra shim was to smooth out some throttle response.

But I read too much... Here, there everywhere all the suggested jetting is around 142/42 or 145/42 with one shim, with two shims... I get confused, need beer.

Again, the bike runs strong. I am a sea level in So Cal and ride up into the canyons (3,000 to 6,000).

What do you guys think? I got no hesitation, plugs look okay, a real rush at 6500 rpm and up.

Only way to tell would be a dyno test. My results were 140,42, 1shim. I did pick up some power and torqe going from 135 to 140. Also depends on what you have for exhaust. Dyno curves in my members album. If it is lean you may in fact break it.-T1

I'm running 42, 1 shim on Thrux needle, and 155 mains, mix screws are 1.25 turns out. I think I could almost go bigger on the main, but it's running really strong. I did have 2 shims on the needles and it was running too rich, just pulled one off last weekend and it's running better than ever.

Take it up to So Cal Triumph in Brea. They do all of their jetting by sniffer.

They told me when I picked up mine that the exhaust gas analyzer told them my bike liked fatter jetting than usual, but it wasn't anything to worry about.

I am not since I have raced two strokes for years. I know two bikes set up identical may need slightly different jetting to run their best.

My bike has run great since I bought it.

I want to go talk to them to see if they will rejet for me when I get my airbox removal. If they won't, I may not do it. Since I ride it almost daily, I can't have it running funny, or hard starting.

Monkeyboy, mine runs better than stock, much more power (relatively) and starts more easily and warms up more quickly than stock. They're pretty easy to get tuned 95% right, and a good dyno run will narrow it down that last little bit.

I wouldn't be afraid of doing the airbox elim b/c of jetting worries. You could probably start where anyone is on this thread and be pretty close.

42 pilots, 1 shim on thruxton needles (stock needles), and 140-155 mains should get you near perfect.

Most if not all, of the Triumph dealers will not work on a bike these days that have modded or will change any emissions and/or non-stock items. In fact one dealer was fined and if caught again needs to pay the entire fine... I have spoken to Brea and though they will work on the stock bike, they will not work on mine due to the airbox removal. I have also checked with So Bay and got a reception so cold, I will not even buy a t-shirt (or anything) from them or deal with them again. The reponse I got was we don't provide any services for that type of work. :???: I thought they would be the go-to team due to their performance claims etc.

I think I will try the larger mains along with a some dyno time (pending costs). Like I said the bike is running well, seems to have no issues, but I read too much (everyone runs bigger mains with my set up here on this board it seems - TORs, NARK). In addtion, the Jenks recommendations, and jetting calc come up differant as well.

Thanks for all the information.

My dealer has no problems with working on modded bikes, in fact the service manager told me that's the area of their business that they hope to have the most growth. The shop adverstises aftermarket performance upgrades on their website -pipes, airbox, 904cc kit, etc. and they're very willing to try new things.

Is it corporate Triumph that's threatening to fine, or local law or code enforcement?

Out here in California it is a Ca Air Resource Board (CARB) enforcement issue. Several dealers were found in violation a bit back of removing emissions prior to, or as part of a new vehicle sale. This probably has lead to "uneasy" relations or comfort when dealing with emissions, exhaust mods etc. There is another post in the forum were removal of emissions or changes to air/exhausts are discussed (in fact I got a fix it ticket once for exhausts). Typically if a dealership out here works on a bike that makes it "race track or off road only" this is clearly stated on the work order/invoice etc. which may (or may not) release them from the infraction.

I don't wish to point out the dealers, or give them a bad rep. It is a condition and requirement the dealers here have to work within. I am not going to "turn in" a dealer for work I requested or did on my bike. I am accepting the risk of modifactions and fault lies with no one but me. My complaint or ***** note was I was asking a question about jetting at the dealer and got a cold shoulder, in fact the person walked away from me.

End of soapbox.

Now I got to but some addtional jets to try out and get on a dyno!
