So, having owned Mr. Sprint for a couple of months now and regularly regaling my wife with stories of a wild days riding with my mates, she took the bait. She hinted that she might like to be able to ride with us and enjoy the fun. Never mind that she has never ridden before, that's a minor inconvenience to my wife! I, of course, will teach her! the Ninja won't start and the KLX is way too tall for her, so it's down to my beloved Triumph to perform the dangerous indoctrination to two wheels. With trembling body and choking back tears for the inevitable bike damage, we start her lessons. The pre-ride instruction is supposed to go on for an hour but after five minutes she is bored and wants to ride, so I jump on the back and she rides off very gently around the block. She did so well that I let her take it off on her own. Around the block perfectly! Even got into 3rd gear. Came back beaming from ear to ear and said "I want a bike.....soon!" (I know, you thought the sad part would be that she dropped it! Oh no......read on) It was at this point that my devious mind hatched a cunning plan in a split second. I'll buy a brand new Sprint and give her the old one "to practice on until you are ready for the very different '07 model darling" It couldn't fail! Or could it? She wanted to check out styles of bikes etc so me and my riding buddies took her to a bike superstore. (I knew it was a bad idea as they don't sell Triumphs there!) When she walked close to the Harleys, I said "come away from there Dawn. You don't want any of that old rubbish" Too late.....her eyes were already glazed over and she was climbing on a HD sportster! An hour later I walked out $7000 poorer. To top it off, I have to go and pick it up tomorrow and ride it home.....my Trumpy will sulk forever! ***** Harley Davidson and all its shiny appealing chrome! Merry #@%&$*^ Christmas! It's enough to make a grown man weep.

Relax, the bikes will get along together just fine. The Harley is like a mistress ... throw shiny stuff and money at her on a regular basis and she'll be satisfied. The Triumph is like a lover ... give her a good hard ride now and then and she'll be content.

I do keep both the Road King and Sprint covered in the shed, just to keep the squabbling down, though.

Condolences Fire-Limey for your gain.

Did you tell her that she'll never get to wave or nod to other bikers?

Did you mention the ridicule that you'll have to endure here on the T.rat site??

Does she truly love you? If she did she wouldn't deny you an 07 Sprint, would she??

If SWMBO is happy, I can assure you, all will work out as you planned, maybe better! Lot's of folks comment about that HD vibe putting gals "in the mood". Seriously, very cool deal for her and you. I can bet she will support you when your ready for a new ride too.

Cheers, Ride Safe!

I have to agree with saddletramp, ain't no big deal. Some of us do it all the time. I got up this morning, wanted to go on a ride, and got to make a choice. Motorhome or Corvette....... Today, the motorhome got the nod.

This is why I don't tell my wife anything. "How was the ride dear?". "It was fine. What's for dinner?" Game over. I live in jersey too, lets ride!.

Well lads,
mixed replies there. I just picked it up and dropped it off at my mates garage until Christmas Day. (People ride these things by CHOICE?!)When I got home and when to the shed to see Sprint, she started sniffing my leg suspiciously.......Sprint knows I've been unfaithful!
It's true, if my wife truly loved me she would BUY me a new Sprint. I've ordered a second shed so I can keep the bikes separate.......no fighting that way. Got to go out and make it up to Sprint now........

It'll be alright. My best comrade and riding compadre rides a Harley FXDX that he refers to as the Un-Harley. His dealer can't understand why there is never any tread left on the outside edge of his tires. We make up the Anglo-American riding team. My Sprint hasn't shown any predjudice yet. If your wife can ride hers a quarter as well a my friend, you should have some good times. (However, you will be stopping frequently for gas). Just keep her away from all the shiney nut covers and other expensive non essentials. And watch out for the biker rallys. Theys nekkid wimmen wandering about.

Basco, you get the cigar mate! Best idea I've heard yet! A Rocket III it is. (maybe next year) I intend to go to as many rallies and meets as I can; been to a few local things, but the first big one is Daytona in March. (Can't wait! Oh no! I don't have to see nekkid women do I? Oh well, if I must then) DaveM, what does 1%er mean, if that's not too dumb of a question. Is it something to do with those greasy, bearded wankers that swagger around thinking they're big tough bikers? I will let you all know what happens when she gets her present on Christmas day. (she has no idea that I bought the bike) Until then.........
Safe riding lads

I would give anything to get my wife to ride anything!... Good choice in mates! On second thought she may slow you down on that thing. But maybe not. I went on a ride out of Asheville NC with a group from Meyers. There was a very petite (and I mean tiny) lady on what I guess was a lowered lowrider. She could sling the bike through corners with no problem. Oh! and her hubby was on a Rocket III.

I couldn't wait for Christmas, so gave her the bike on Saturday. She was blown away! Hasn't stopped riding or smiling! She actually rides pretty well considering. I wasn't able to write a post earlier as she has been hogging the bloody computer ordering all kinds of shiny HD [email protected]^& and God knows what else! My hopes of weaning her off HD and getting her on a Trumpy are dashed it seems. Still, next year the 883 sportster will be way too tame for her (aided by me putting in a too small main jet!!!) and then we can see about a Rocket III. I'll have my way yet!
Hope you guys all have a great holiday and brilliant new year and remember, think of FIRE SAFETY in your homes this holiday!
