I stayed in all of yesterday and today, probably the last two days of warm weather we'll see here in NE Ohio for a few months. I pulled something in my right shoulder .... probably putting the new ST1300 up on the center stand ... or dumping a couple bags of salt in the water softener .... or simply an old injury flaring up for any number of reasons.

Anyway, hope all of you who got out in this good late season weather had some great rides.

For me, it's off to the Cleveland Clinic tomorrow to see if they can figure out what's wrong, and come up with a quick fix. The 2007 riding season is just around the corner.

Bob, sorry to hear you're injured, GLAD it wasn't the "get off" I envisioned when I read the title of the post.

I partially tore a rotator cuff years ago and re-injure it from time to time. Makes you look for the spike that just has to be in there...........OUCH, no ability to do *****, but hurt yourself trying!

Hopefully you can rehab it out, don't rush building it back up.

Good Luck!

I have a "rebuilt" shoulder from a motorcycle accident many years ago. Sometimes the wrong move can give it a pull. Good idea getting yours checked out. Hope you feel better soon.

Actually, I bought better cold weather gear and for a few weeks we had cold weather, but for the last couple of weeks it has been warm. I'm not sure if I like that or not.

We have a bunch of rain coming and I have a lot of traveling to do on my bike for work this week. Maybe that will make me feel better. javascript: x()

Thanks for the good wishes, guys. Yeah, if there's a time to be down, this is it. It has to be rotator cuff-related. Non-bike related incident several years ago ....slipped coming down stairs and got my arm in some weird position trying to stop myself from going over a railing. Pop. Should've done something about it then, since it's been a minor bother off and on for years. Ya think the Triumph gods are seeking revenge because of the new ST1300 .... or is the new ride just so d***** heavy, I pulled my shoulder putting the bike on the centerstand?

Sorry for your troubles, Bob, and will be praying for you. Access to the Clinic is at least one bonus living so close to the Lake.

One of the main reasons I got the Bonnie was I was sick and tired of trying to muscle around 675-850# bikes! I was always pulling something, or tearing something, or cussing something. In my dotage a bike that is well under 500#s has a lot of appeal, as do the 440# Hawk and ditto Sue's Vulcan 500c.

Get well soon!

Monte

PS: We did get out this afternoon after church and it was about 60 around here. Visited some friends in Gnaden and north of Dover. Not a lot of miles, about 65, but it was leisurely and enjoyable. I have ridden 10 days this December! That is some record given the usual mess here in December!

Bob, this reply is not meant to insult or preach to the choir. It's what I do and when you are able or if you have a willing helper, try these steps.

Stand on left side and hold bike up and/or use side stand. Align your body/right leg-foot with center stand "step".

Level bike w/ bars straight. Right foot pushes down center stand.

Center stand touching ground with BOTH supports/feet. You and Bike Should be stable in this position.

Keep left hand on bar/grip and right hand on rail/lifting point. Left hand keeps bars stable w/ no turning of wheel allowed. Right hand lifts/pulls back slightly.

Key is lifting with your LEGS. Actually leg press. You use your upper body/arms to assist, but when the bike is balanced on the stand you will push down hard along with a tug of the arms and she will pop right up (quicker than you think).

A little practice and you will use very little upper body strength. They are balanced and the momentum will do the work (like properly pressing a heavy weight, it's not a half hearted tug of war that injures/strains. Think back how your Coach had you lifting so as not to damage joints, hurt back etc).
Cheers!

Hi, BobW - I appreciate the lifting advice. I'm experienced at lifting heavy bikes onto their stands (lots of BMW K bikes in my past). I was doing so many things lately where I was straining the shoulder ... brake job on Audi (those d***** wheels are heavy getting them back on), loading 80# bag of salt into softener, getting used to lifting the new bike, changing my exercise routine to add an additional 25 pushups to the daily routine .............................. I guess any of these, or a combination of them could have caused the problem.

Hope the orthopaedic doc at the Clinic can get me moving quickly again. Worst part of this is having to drive into downtown Cleveland, where I generally get lost.

Thanks for that sage input. I'm Mr. Pull-this, Pull-that. Sometimes moving the bonnie is tough for me and I should not contemplate ever getting something heavier next to it.

Thanks for keeping me in your thoughts and prayers. It has been a wonderful December (and November wasn't bad either). Oct was the killer this year. When we lose that month, we lose lots of good riding time. Glad to hear you and Sue got to enjoy it.

Hopefully, the orthopaedic doc at the Clinic can determine the problem, do some magic, and get me back up and running. It could be a matter of keeping it inactive for a few more days, but up to now, this hasn't cured the problem.

Speaking of light bikes, that's probably one of the reasons the twins (airhead Beemer, W650, and T100 have remained my favorites)

Good luck Bob. I hope they get you up and running again soon. You probably have good reasons for going downtown and it's probably too late anyway, but the Clinic has a great center much closer, in Strongsville, at the SR82 exit from I-71. I go there and they have the same high class of MD's and most of the facilities without the hassle of going into Cleveland. In any case, get well soon.

Hi, Raproe - yeah, I normally don't go downtown, but to their Solon location, but they couldn't get me in until after Jan 1. You know us biker types "...what, me wait?...". However, thanks. I didn't know they had a facility in Strongsville.

Thanks Doc Jay. The analysis .... calcium deposits on some of the shoulder joint. After reviewing the x-rays, the good doc at Cleve Clinic did me a good turn and gave me a vet-size shot of cortisone right in the shoulder .... it also contained short term and long term novocane. This is the 'quick' fix. Hopefully it'll get me thru the upcoming riding season. He recommended I drop (for the time being) pushups and curls from my exercise routine. That was my plan anyway!

Wow, Bob: I get the willies just thinking about that shot! Reminds me too much of all those pokes with that "vet sized" needle when they were drawing all that blood off the hematoma after my crash. In any case, did you save the needle? If you did and the shot works you might want to try it as a new main jet for your Bonnie. I hear that will increase the hp by .0003% and up the torque by .07% -- but that is hearsay. Better you ask Jay if those figures are correct.

Thanks to all for your thoughts .... I just have to remind myself to stay off two wheels for a few weeks while things are going back to normal.

Monte - The needle and pump were only marginally smaller than a basketball pump. I don't know .... I see you discussing jetting .... you're one step away from the dark side! .0003 and .07 percent? ....Now that's power worth chasing! But I'll only have enough parts for one carb.
