There is only one advantage to using and Irridium spark plug. They do not wear out like a standard plug. The disadvantage is that occasionally the spark plug itself will break before it is ever even close to wearing out. They last so long the porcelin will crack or so might the center electrode shaft. They say irridium plugs will last over 120000 miles in a car motor, but having a spark plug in our motor untouched for 6 years creates its own problems. I use the irridium plugs, but still replace them after about a year or 2.
Irridium plugs do not enhance engine performance at all, EVER.
