Hi

I notice that there has been a lot of work done on the Ignitech ignition unit. Has anyone looked closely at the one from Carmo? I know it isn't programmable, but when I read about the issues with programming the Ignitech one, particularly with regard to TPS install, that seems to be an advantage.

No experience with the Carmo, but note the TPS is entirely an optional item on the Ignitech - no need to use it.

I wouldn't say there's 'issues' with the Ignitech programming, it's just that it was designed as a universal unit & you need to be sure of the correct/optimal settings for our bikes. The old style serial port interface is a bit clunky by current standards but is perfectly adequate for the job. Most folks can find someone with the bit of extra computer knowledge that may be useful.

The Carmo is plug & play but more expensive, link for those interested:

Couple of options (?) for the later style igniters

Not sure what the difference is between these two? The instructions listed seem to be identical:

These require solder/crimping of new loom side connectors (supplied with the units).

Hi no problems with Carmo works fine fitted one approximately year ago after having two Gill igniter's fail on TBS 2004. Must replace connections with the ones supplied by Carmo so must cut wires to replace the old with new. Wire colour code instructions for connections were good not perfect as one maybe two wires were different colour on my bike but I worked it out & I've never done any thing like this before but I have change a couple of light globes ;) (Info bit late for original 2007 post which is about the time I replaced my first Gill but so far so good with Carmo) bye
