I looked into this about 6 months ago, if you ask how much they'll say anywhere from 500-god knows, upwards of 1,000.

but if you walk in or call and ask, "can you do this for 200?" they'll say yes...shop around, and look for a motorcycle shop that paints, not an auto body shop.

I put an ad on craigslist asking for someone to recommend a local painter and I got about 20 responses immediately, a few for the same place and I called them and they said 200 bucks was cool.

MT - painted my tank, fenders, and side covers in my garage. Materials were $200.00 but that is because of all the paint colors involved (black, pearl white, pearl red, pearl green, violet, med metalic silver and course metalic silver all combined to make the grey and black bike I ended up with) sand paper and primers. I have quotes from auto body shops for as low as $75.00 for a basic 1 color tank spray. I paid $500.00 to have the 51 T100 repainted in its original sliver metalic with black stripes and that included the tank and both full fenders, dent repair on the tank and repairing some cracked welds on the fender mounts and doing the metal work to bring those up to speed. That is a full blown show quality paint job on the 51 T100. JCW
