This afternoon I removed the seal from air filter, removed SAI, and installed tuneECU #20359, and ... hold on tight and wash your mouth out with soap, because when you twist the throttle you'll likely say

HOLY [email protected] !!!

So much new torque and hp in the entire upper half of the the rpm range.

You will not be disappointed.

My previous 1600 Power Mods -- the Shorties and the High Flow filter were not really anything without what I did today. All together THIS IS WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT! Note if you do not have Blue/White, you may have to repaint as well:cool:

thanks to dazco and cornerbanger, I got these mods from their posts.

Is it possible for dirty air to bypass the the filter without the seal on?. and excuse my ignorance but whats SAI?, is it the ducting under the seat? also would the dealer put the tune you mention in for me if i asked him or is that taboo.

hi wallacej -

the seal forms a tight fit between the airfilter to the under seat ducting. By removing the seal - more air is allowed to enter the air filter, in other words to bypass the seat duct. Removing the seal does NOT allow air to bypass the air filter in any way.

The SAI is explained in this tread started by corner banger.http://www.triumphrat.net/cruisers-thunderbird/149786-decel-popping-almost-eradicated.html

I am not the expert - but I am 99% sure my performance gain was by removing the seal. The SAI removal helps with excessive burbling and popping on decel.

I left my SAI enabled because it's been said that the extra unburned fuel that doesn't get burned in the exhaust port by SAI will poison the cat. So unless you've removed your cat box i would leave SAI enabled. It doesn't affect performance in any way. All your benefit came from the seal. I have asked at several forums and even the more experienced guys who advocate removing SAI also say they would probably leave it if thier bike had a cat. Some with cats in thier headers like the bonnies and variants are said to have removed thiers with no adverse effects. But then thiers are different then our dedicated box. Whether that matters or not or whether it's risky to disable SAI with any form of cat is up in the air. I prefer not to chance it. But then mine has the BB kit and since i got that it hardly pops at all. If the cat IS poisoned, the result is the material more or less melts together causing blockage of the exhaust which if not damaging will at least lead to a non running bike. Just food for thought, and i'm only the messenger, but i thought you should know this. Always research any mod you do thoroughly before you try it or risk damaging your bike.

I think anytime you force your cat to breath your engine exhaust, there's a pretty darn good chance you're going to poison him. :)
