Went to look at the Daytona 675 and fell in love with the Suzuki Vstrom. Of course I couldn't get a ride, but its got a nicer seat, 74BHP from a 650cc V twin and 20 lbs lighter than a Bonnie and over a grand cheaper. Now I'm torn because one just failed to meet reserve on EBay and the dealer is only 80 miles away-2005 model, 5K miles, $4995.
PLEASE talk me out of it Guys- I spent over a grand prettying up and tuning up the Bonnie and it goes like a raped ape.

When I decided to get a bike it came down to between the T100 and the V-strom. It's all in what you want a bike for. Will you be happy with the Suz or will you get tired of it and wish you had your Bonny? What will the V do that your Bonny won't?If you wanted a Daytona then I doubt you'll be happy with the V. Get a Daytona.

Your saying your torn between the Bonnie and a Daytona or something similar? Who isn't? They are entirely different rides, so you need to figure if you can own both, or really want to change the type of riding your doing.

I'm quite taken by the 675 too, and oh if I could afford to own two bikes....

That vstrom is very popular, sv650 seems closer to matching your 675 ache. And you can get them cheap. You cannot do that with a 675.

What Whoa said. My buddy and brother both have SV650s. My brother picked up an '02 with less than 10,000 miles on it in PRISTINE condition for $3200 bucks, with a jacket and helmet...

My buddy got a used '05 with 900 miles on it for $5000.

After riding theirs the bonnie feels heavy, slow, bad brakes, bad handling, but still cool as hell.

I wouldn't trade them for keeps, but maybe for a day...Look for a used SV650. They're everywhere, and bulletproof.

V-Stroms are really good bikes, but...

My Bonneville just makes me feel better. I've bought bikes using logic and I've bought bikes with emotion. The bikes that got to me emotionally have always been the bikes that meant the most to me. Surrounded in a sea of really great Japanese bikes that I've owned, my favorites are the Norton Commando, the BMW R60, and my T100.

I can't talk you out of it, because the VSTROM is a great bike, and especially at that low price for the used one you found. But if I was headed in that direction wityh a new purchase, and could spend about $9,000 I'd get the new 2007 Tiger, because they are somewhat similar in appearance.

SV650's are probably the best deal out there. They can also be set up with hard bags and shields. Like any bike, a pipe and air cleaner to let her breathe and you have a great little all rounder. There are many bikes with less CC that can dust a stock Bonnie in most categories, but the Bonnie to some is the most unque. If I din't have the Bonnie, I'd like one of these for fun.

I agree with all the comments about the SV650, but at 6'2" I found my legs were too long and my knees were above the indentations in the tank. Instead they were splayed out and resting on the sharp edge where the sides splay out. I could have got an 04 with 3000 miles for $3500.

i almost bought the sv - but i missed out on the deal by hours- wife had dropped at stop sign and never got back on 800 kms. but now i am glad i did not - first they really are a dime a dozen but of greater concern is that the fit and finish it is a budget bike. pretty and fast but needs work

Well, don't talk to Dennis (forum member d2mini), he sold his Bonnie and bought a Wee-Strom! IIRC, his issue was 2-up riding and extended touring.

As someone who owns the bigger 'Strom and a Bonnie, they're apples and oranges. Totally different machines for different purposes. I tend to take the V-Strom when I have to be someplace. I take the Bonneville when I've no place particular to go, just want to ride. Was very fortunate that things worked out that I could have both (was in the right place at the right time and got a deal on a leftover '05 V-strom.)

I just picked up a 2006 Scrambler to replace my 2005 SV650 for street use (the SV is becoming a track bike), and they are worlds different. Both are great bikes, the Triumph is alot smoother and does beg me to go ton-up everytime I throw a leg over it. The SV/Wee Strom motors are tough as nails, I have just under 30k on miles on it with no major maintenance other than oil changes, tires, and chain/ sprockets. The 675 is another awesome looking and feeling bike, but any modern sportbike is just begging for trouble when used on the street. I've found riding a "slow bike" fast is more fun than riding a fast bike slow.
