Hey, my 2000 Trophy needs the right front side turn signal (blinker) replaced. Can someone send me instructions, or direct me to a link that would tell me how to do it?
You need to remove the right side lower fairing. The colored base housing of the signal is screwed in from the back.
I have replaced the bug-eyed factory signals with flush mount oval marker/signal lites. 20 bucks a pair and dual functional. Plus when she tips over they don't get crushed. Small oval running/signal lites cover most of the factory monting holes too, or reflectors(yellow for the front) or driving lites, or just black abs plastic trimmed to fit. I've also gone to bar mounted mirrors. She tipped over on a trip to the Smokies last month when my right foot slipped on leaves and debris at a stop sign, snapped the right mirror right off. At $100+, never again. 20 bucks a pair for new bar mirrors. There are plugs in the factory mounting holes on the bars. Be careful when re-installing the fairing allen screws, they cross thread easily and Triumph wants $4 a piece for the bolt and clip.
Yeah, you can undo the bolts and reach in to get to the signal. Narrowminded, what brand, if you remember, of marker light did you buy and did it cover the original "boss" on the fairing fairly neatly? I agree that $53 apiece is a bit steep; the bag lids go for $197 each (believe me, I know). I've got a "spare" set of lids repaired and repainted by my friends body shop "just in case". Hope I never have to put them on. By the way, the rivets that are needed for the lids are 5/32 and they aren't the easiest things to find either. I'm lucky that one of the local glass shops uses them on their aluminum doors and windows.
I'm such a newbie to the Triumphs...I'm assuming that all I need to do is to take the fairing off by unscrewing all the allen screws...there seems to be about 10 - 15 or so?? Or is there some tricky way of taking it off??
Fairing, black right side dash(just to loosen, wiring to fuse doesn't let the panel move much, DO NOT apply force). I believe the screws are 7mm.
Jim, JP Cycles has a number of sizes, colors, available. The turn signal "boss" may need a round reflector, try Wal-Mart.
STRAD: YOU ONLY NEED TO REMOVE 3 SCREWS FROM THE PANEL ON THE FAIRING LOWER BESIDE THE FRONT WHEEL (INSIDE IN FRONT OF RADIATORS); THIS IS THE BLACK INNER PIECE. YOU CAN LOOSEN IT JUST ENOUGH TO REACH IN WITH A SMALL SOCKET AND TAKE OUT THE SCREW ON THE SIGNAL. UNPLUG THE WIRE AND YOU'RE ALL SET TO REINSTALL.
Thanks fellas for all your advice. I was able to put on a new signal last night...except that I read Jim's post about having to unscrew just a few screws a bit too late so I ended up unscrewing a lot more than was necessary. I took the "Long Way Round", I suppose...oh well, it's always a learning experience.
Thanks again.
