I ordered the Idiot lights LED upgrade and I thought everything was fine. I got home after a short ride and noticed that the oil idiot light was not working. Being the idiot that I am, I guess that I pushed the LED into the socket incorrectly and broke the little tab that holds it together. I noticed that the fuse blew. Since the whole thing broke, I decided that it was a good idea to just clip the socket off (again being an idiot) later replace it with a new socket, and tape the cables off with electrical tape. I also noticed that the pilot light on the headlamp was not lighting. I am not sure if this is related or not.

So, I got a new fuse, capped the cables (see picture) and tried it again. Now none of the idiot lights go on and the bike won't even start, not even a click! The fuel and the engine little lights on the speedo also don't light up. HELP!!!!

Update:

I was able to get the idiot lights to work (the engine fuse was also blown) but since I clipped the oil light socket, I don't have one now. I was looking in Bike Bandit and it seems that you have to buy the whole harness for $600. Is there no other option?

There was another poster that required a new idiot lampholder recently. The only thing that's listed separately are the lens, the rest of the lamp is part of the harness, bloody lunacy...perhaps a bike salvage firm might let you have a harness or at least the relevant section cheaply.

Pinwall are the most popular for Triumphs:

http://www.pinwallcycle.com/

The lampholders are also used on lots of cheapo Chinese bike and scooters so they must be available somewhere else, probably very cheaply. The problem is locating some. I've been trying to do so and publish the source here but no success so far.

How do I know this?, because I have a Chinese Qingqi QM110 in my garage, it has a dashboard fitted with the same lights as the Bonnie:

Funnily enough the same bike also has the same front brake light switch as my Bonnie:

Good find, thanks. The "Warning lights with symbol" at 12.5 mm (0.5")in diameter might well fit:

http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/VWP-onlinestore/switches/warninglights.php

I considered fitting some of these myself, until I realised that there is no neutral light. Considering that the stock wiring is too short anyway, and graphics are not really neccessary it would be as well to just fit 10mm superbright prewired LEDs in chrome bezels.

The LEDs in the link are just examples by the way. These prewired 10mm LEDs are available in green, blue, red, amber, 2 whites, pink and purple.

Guys, thanks so much for all of the help. 2 questions:

1) The cables are blue and white, which one is + and which one is -? Since the socket and LED are non-polarized, does it make a difference?
2) Any ideas where I can get the rubber boots? Those things are fragile!!

Forchetto, as I am doing this and realize that I just broke something so expensive (stupid design if you ask me) I kept thinking "Forchetto would not be proud...."

This is the oil idiot light? The wiring to the rubber boots is not shown on the wiring diagram, so trace each one to the big connector. The - is whichever one of the wires connects to the black on pin 1 of the connector. This will be right at one end of the connector. The other wire is then +.

If these are the LED idiot light upgrade from New Bonneville, only the LED for the turn signals is polarised AFAIK. It doesn't make a difference with a bulb, but it will with a LED.

You need to find dealers of other bikes that use them. It seems like the Chinese use them a lot. Forchetto may be of more help to you on this one.

I can't find any searching in the usual sources. Some heat-shrinkable tubing available from electronic suppliers would do the job though. One with an ID of around 15mm and a shrink ratio of 2:1 or 3:1 would do.

that's what I was thinking but then the seal between the bezel and the boot won't be there. I may have to put some sort of black silicone to secure the bezel and then the shrink tube for the wiring behind it.

Really asinine design, though. For a motorcycle that is so easy to work on, this one is baffling. I would have loved to be a fly in the wall during that design conversation:

Engineer: Let's secure the idiot light bezels with an all-in-one rubber boot/light connector directly attached to the entire harness (unlike the pilot light connection) to keep things simple.
Logical person: But what if something happens to the boot or the connector, won't they have to then replace the entire $600 wiring harness?
Engineer: C'mon! that would never happen.....

Challenge is... if you can find them !! :)

I ended up buying this
http://www.superbrightleds.com/search/led-products/t5/

and this

http://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/led-vehicle-replacement-bulbs/74-led-bulb-3-smd-led-wide-angle-wedge-base/228/

and one of this in case I get the polarity wrong!

http://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/instrument-cluster-gauge/pc74-led-bulb-high-power-instrument-panel-led/709/

I'll wrap the whole thing in shrink tube and use electrical tape to keep it close to the main harness,

At any rate, much cheaper than the Idiot light kit for $25. Now I know that the Speedo and Tach lights are 194s and that the Idiot lights are T5s. There is a smaller light on the odometer that is a different size.

The tach lighting is 2 x T10 and the speedo is 1 x T10 and 1 x T5. I did mine in green.

I did mine in cool white and they are nice and visible without being too bright. I had a hard time seeing the red or blue ones.
