Does anyone know why the carbs are heated?

To prevent icing in cold, damp weather?. Cold damp weather plus the cooling effect of gasoline evaporating in the carb can form ice crystals that can become thick enough to choke the venturi completely. Sometines the ice can be seen on the outside of the carb as well.

Engine stops and within a few minutes engine heat melts the ice and things return to normal. The murder weapon has melted and it becomes the perfect crime.
Indeed. De icing measure.
