Hi
Has anyone any experience of rebuilding the Harris Bonneville Magura master cylinders? Mine is weeping and I am planning a complete overhaul of the braking system. The various Brembo parts are easy as they are the same as my Guzzi, but am struggling to find a repair kit for the Magura master cylinder. A few places do list them, but no-one actually seems to have them in stock.
The alternative is to swap to a standard late Meriden set up, but that's a new twin disc master cylinder and switch gear at about £200 for the whole lot!

Many thanks Dan. That was just the lead I was loking for, I had a feeling that some BMW parts may work, but couldn't find a reference.

I see you're another Guzzi owner. Good choice!

Hi,

struggling to find a repair kit for the Magura master cylinder.
As they built the bike, have you contacted Harris, for spares or references?

Les Williams used Magura master cylinders on his 1980's 'Legend' T160 and 'Buccaneer' T140 rebuilds; although Les sold the business years ago, L.P. Williams is still a specialist triple spares supplier, have you checked the website or contacted Phil the owner?

Venhill sell Magura parts and spares; have you contacted them to ask if they know anything about the Harris Bonny master cylinder?

Hth.

Regards,

I have tried all the usual suppliers, no one has any in stock, I have been in touch with Phil at L P Williams as they do list the seal kits, I ordered one, he got in touch with Venhills to buy one in and was told they're out of stock!.
The Bonneville shop do list them, but at £130. I have messaged him to see if that is correct and if he actually has any.
I think I have found a seal kit from a BMW 100RS. It certainly looks hopeful

Hi Don - glad the BMW link helped. Your existing master cylinder will have the piston size cast into the underneath of the housing. On BMWs fitted with the round reservoir it was either 13mm for single disc, or 16mm for twin. A lot of owners converted to a smaller piston (15mm square reservoir) setup when the original failed, as 16mm was considered by some to give a "wooden" feel at the bars. I'm guessing that such a mod should also be possible for your bike as BMW (Magura) master cylinders seem to be pretty well interchangeable.

Nord at Motorworks is the man to speak to if you need any advice as to what will fit with what - guy's a genius.

I recall you being a bit of a Guzzi guru on the Guzzi forum!

Hi Dan
I have found a new R100RS rebuild kit on ebay and have ordered that. Hopefully it will fit. I will pull it all apart later on today and see what I find.

Was it you looking to catch up with fellow Guzzi owners down your way? Do you know Rick Trivet in Tiverton?

Best of luck with the rebuild - if the piston size is right I can't see any problems. Nice bike by the way - I know the Harris bikes are a bit like Marmite, but I like the look of them.

Don't know Rick, but there's a big Guzzi fan called Barry who lives just down the road. Is Rick the guy who raced them? Pretty sure there was a chap in Tiverton who did big things with them...

Francois Your English is fine, way better than my French.
I managed to buy a repair kit from BMW for my cylinder. There are plenty available on eBay. It needs to be 16mm and so long as the bore of the body is in good condition, this should solve your pissing problem.
