I've always used a cantilever front stand for all my bikes and they work great. But it's best to use a rear stand too. If you use the center stand and the rear wheel touches down when you lift the front, you will lose all stability. The front stand alone will not support the bike.

One other note. You can use the front alone with the center stand if you have a lift with a cutaway panel for the rear wheel. This way, the rear will drop into the cutaway when you lift the front and all is well. I use one of these. Check out the link. They work great. Check out all the pics. One of them shows the panel clearly.

Thanks Yimm,

I'd like to have a lift, but the garage is packed as it is. My next house will have a proper shop.

The height on this particular stand is adjustable which I can see being good and bad. I guess if the rear tire touches ground I can just remove the rear wheel or buy a rear stand.

Thanks again.
