Forgive my ignorance here, but looking at the Rocket I notice that the "gas tank" sits up pretty high. I know on my Gold Wing and my previous Venture Royale that the tank was located under the seat, helping with a lower center of gravity. Is that the case also with the Rocket? Since I'm in Afghanistan at the present I can't really go out and look at one to find out. Thanks

You have to actually sit on the bike to get the true feel of it. The tank does seem to set up high and the driver down low, but this is a good thing. You feel much more "into" the machine rather than simply being "on" it. The whole unit has a very good feel to it and this makes you feel much more a part of it . Very good ergos IMHO !

By that I take it that the tank is on top of the engine and not under the seat. I know on the Gold Wing part the tank stretches out from beneath the top shelter to under the seat. The reason I asked is that the tank is over 6 gallons so I figured that some of the gas may be stored under the seat as well.
Thanks,
Dennis

Enjoy reading your posts, especially because of your location.

Great question. My two cents. I am certain you have access to the motor diagrams and other information about this bike. The location of the crank so low in the frame, has to counter the weight of the gas above it. The bike has never felt top heavy. I guess they could have placed the fuel under the seat and the battery in the false tank. This change might further improve the handling.

Yep, all 6.6 gallons are held in the tank that you see, there is no other hidden tank. But, with a 45lb crankshaft and also a balancer shaft that probably weighs another 20 or so pounds, there is a great balance between the fuel tank weight and the low center of the engine.

Thanks guys, I believe I have been enlightened. As for having access to motor diagrams, that would be a big nada.
I've accessed the website and have the "specs" but no diagrams. Is there a place to access those, I like to thoroughly investigate a bike before I buy, and there is never too much information. Besides, gives me something to do while I count down the days.
Again, Thanks to all the replies.

I was very kindly pm'd the site for the Rocket III manual and downloaded it. I have gone over it pretty good (all 400+ pages of it). So now I am pretty satisfied that I have it figured out tech wise. What a machine!
