Hey guys,

I just put a 17 tooth front sprocket on my '05 Daytona. the swap was pretty easy and straight forward, but does anyone know the torque spec for the nut that holds the sprocket on? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Linz,

Yeah, it's just like Rammstien said. Lower gearing for better streetability. The parts guy at my dealer said that it should shift the rpm's up about 800 rpm in each gear. Unfortunately it's winter up here and my bike is put away for the season, so I won't be able to verify any of this for a few months.

Honestly, I don't think the loss in top end is a big deal at all. I don't need to be able to go 160 mph.

Linz, I've had a 17T c/s sprocket for about a year now. 60 MPH (96 KMH) is now 4K RPM...I forget what it was before. :hammer:

Fuel mileage, overall, hasn't changed. Easier to start off from a stand-still, stronger acceleration, not too short for highway riding.

While I'm not showing any wear problem, I think when it's time to replace chain and sprockets, I'll go 18T/44T, which is almost the same ratio as the present 17T/42T. (The '02 DSSA D955i here did wear through the rubbing block w/the '04's old 18T, but is now a 18T/46T and very responsive. :-D )
